I'd think a good return would be something like:

A 1st and a mid-level prospect or two

or

A 2nd/3rd and a youngish, non-elite roster player (someone of the caliber of Tomas Fleischmann/Andrew Cogliano/Andrew Ladd)

I'm hoping Ryder gets traded to St. Louis so that we can see the return of the legendary Ryder, Halak, and a 2nd.

It'd be hilarious and also disappointing when it turns out Kaberle signed an extension. Then no team but us would get him xD

good call there ...will it be a Phaneuf steal, or a Kubina give away.

My guess is the deal will be something like this:

To TOR:
David Clarkson
Jacob Josefson

To NJ:
Thomas Kaberle
Juraj Mikus

Josefson could be substituted for a first round pick or a combination of mid-rounders; but Burkie's stated he wants prospects who are closer to the NHL and Josefson has an extra year in the SEL under his belt.
I call ********!

The Pens had traded away their second round pick before going after Poni, so your theory of Burke's intense negotiations to get that second changed to Caputi is simply false.

San Jose has Boyle, so I don't think they are going after TKab.

^This. Burke said he was offered a second, but took Caputi instead. Skoula was part of the trade entirely because Pittsburgh had to dump salary.

Oh God, the idea of trading a top pairing defenseman from a Stanley Cup team for a seventh defenseman and a minor leaguer still gives me nightmares.

It was a salary dump so Burke could sign Beauchemin and Komisarek..North Americans that play his style.

Actually, I mean national. Leafs fans have relished trying to pawn off Kaberle on the States for two and a half years.

Also defensemen that are not as good as Pavel Kubina.

I think Kubina was very under rated here in toronto.

Fair enough I agree with what you say, but when Burke got the job and Kaberle was untouchable(NTC) we all knew Kubina was going to go. I'm not sure how much of a return we could have got for him though (5 mil per.) there wasn't alot of teams willing to take him on right before free agency.

It's going to be a shock for most other fans when they realize how little having 1 year on the contract actually means to GMs. Look at what Arnott was traded for and look at what Pronger was traded for. What Kaberle gets will be a lot closer to Pronger in value (he's on a similarily underpaid contract to what Pronger was at the time) with more of an emphasis on talent now.

Burke's asking price was a tier-1 forward or tier-2 forward + 1st Round pick. This tweet implies that he got it or is at least very close to it.

Done from Leafs point of view. We need more wingers and a 1st rounder is good.

I am 99% sure that Lebrun's source is none other than Burke himself, using the media to try and increase Kaberle's value.
