Pens to go after Coburn?

Kinda made me chuckle.

Sources say the Penguins and Sergei Gonchar look to be parting ways, contract talks have not gone how both parties had hoped for, July 1st looks to be the next step.

Note: The Penguins have contacted the Flyers regarding Braydon Coburn as a possible replacement.

I didn't read the article, but as long as we sign Hamuis, they can have him for all I care.

Coburn as a replacement for Gonchar doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

John Slaney for Kevin Stevens?

Either that or Kent Manderville for Billy Tibbetts.

Tangradi + 1st/2nd?

I'd only accept the Pens if they gave us something substantial, and Tangradi can probably jump into our lineup immediately.

Massive overpayment for a 3-4 defensman they can sign without losing their top prospect and a first.

Really? No **** right?

I wasn't sure you caught that, because overpayment was my point.

We have no reason to trade with Pittsburgh unless it's worth our while.

I wouldn't say it's massive overpayment though. Tangradi isn't really anything special. He's Maroon with much better skating, but his hands aren't as good. He's a nice piece, but he's a prospect who won't be anything more than a 2nd liner unless he's on a stacked team (like Pittsburgh or Philadelphia).

He and a mid-round pick would probably be fair for Coburn. I want a high pick just because it's Pittsburgh.

Its a lousy source and I think that Tibbetts and Manderville trade will remain the last dealings between the two clubs for a good, long while.

Even if the Penguins decided Coburn was a target, which I doubt since his game is nothing near what we need to replace Gonchar with, Philadelphia would undoubtedly double the price for the Penguins to acquire him than probably anyone else.

Tangradi is untouchable, Shero's hard-on for him is somewhat ridiculous...and considering he is a young power forward with top six potential he is the only guy in the Penguins pipeline who can slot into the top six and not be stretched out.

If it was an offer sheet we are talking about, th epen sorginization doesnt have the balls to go after a flyers player. As chris said, unless they overpay coburn will not be traded there at all

Anyone know if Tangradi is expected to make the big club this year? The Pens need wingers so desperately, you'd think he'd be given every opportunity.

You ask any OHL coach, manager, or fan which player they'd rather have. Maroon wouldn't get a moment's thought.

Agreed completely, but that has more to do with what Maroon isn't rather than what Tangradi is.

It has just slightly less credibility than hockey buzz.

Why would we trade a young defensemen with tons of potential and an excellent record of performance during the playoffs to one of our chief rivals?

That being said how about Fluery+

Is this the kind of thing that just might get disseminated to the lesser media lights in the hope that they can drive the price up? Or am I being too conspiracy theory?
