I'm happy to have him back. He's a hard worker, doesn't complain when he doesn't get playing time, and is probably our only forward willing to go within 15 feet of the net. And he's a local guy -- I really don't know why anyone would have a problem with this.

Wow, even on this move people need to complain. He makes 500k! That's peanuts. He will be the 13th forward.

Yes, he'll be a 2nd line center

You didn't see the playoffs or all of the previous season did you?

I'm not questioning that. But in their calculation the Habs may have come to this conclusion, that he can take Moore's spot and save money.

Hopefully that's not the case as I was pretty impressed by Moore.

Not a Darche fan...but this is almost inconsequential.

I hope this thread doesn't reach 10 pages like alot of last year's non-descript moves, like the hiring of out goalie coach lol

I hope the next signing is Sergei everywhere riot. On a serious note the contract had to be one way we need leaders on this team even if they dont play much and on top of that Darche talk to the media every day even when thing go bad and defend the team. These kind of guy are very popular in a team like the Habs

This is 500k we won't be capable of putting on an actually physical forward such as Asham. Just saying.

I think you should stop hating....

This signing is obviously to have cheap players on the bottom lines to sign a big name. Its not by having 3-4th liners earning 1M that you will afford a high quality player.

I woulda let him go.. Now we have to endure Martin's version of Kostopolous getting top line time.

God, he's a filler. You need that on a team. A 13th forward. We can't expect young guys to develop playing limited time, but sitting darche out isn't an issue. This doesn't hurt anyone. It helps actually. We don't have to bring our young guys up for 2 minutes a game cuz he will do it.

That's because I don't see any benefit to this particular move at this time. What exactly is the organization afraid of that it signs him today to this contract? It is the money spent on him and the fact that it is one way. Now they have 1/2 million less and can't stuff him in the minors if needed and take away 1/2 million of cap space (which could be the difference b/w 4 million or 4.5 million on Pleks).

I'd rather have a filler who, you know, actually knows how to throw a hit.

There are 600K guys out there that might've done just as good a job.

He's a good guy to have around. Great attitude. Very little talent but decent hockey sense and you need guys that play fearless hockey.

He's also a guy that you can use in your top 6 from time to time and in front of the net on the PP on occasion.

I am happy with the signing. I really feel he deserves this and never noticed him really doing more then he is capable off. As for the comment about him being as soft as butter, I saw a few games in which he hit like hell. Also as mentioned he will not complain about being benched and is just happy to be here playing. Mix his attitude and work ethic to Sergei's talent and you end up with one hell of a hockey player....ahh one can only dream.

Asham wont sign for 500 K or for a 4th line role.

Darche may not be a cranker of hits, but he's got soft hands for a 4th liner (well, as fourth liners go) put up some decent points (10 points in 29 games is NOT bad) and pays the price in front of the net when he is playing well.

Doesnt complain about ice time, and chips in from time to time. for 500 K, the investment was well worth it.

Welcome back Darche, I for one am happy you came back

We had a tough guy play 29 games at 3 times the salary, he got 2 sog, and had an unwritten code that superceded the true unwritten code. Scored a goal and then was waived (rightfully).

We need the RIGHT tough guy on the bottom line, IMO it's Ryan White. White plays C/RW. He could use some of Darche's offensive skills to post some decent points next year.

A consistent 20-30 point 4th line would be allright, esp. when secondary scoring was such a contentious issue in Montreal this year.

Bottom line, Darche was not the problem, he was part of a solution, so... welcome back Mathieu!!! Keep it up

With him & tommy pyatt playing 12/13 forward, I dont mind this call

Gauthier never hinted that he wouldn't make any move. He said there were a couple of "voids" he wanted to fill.

I don't expect a lot of moves.
I certainly don't expect the management to be content with the last playoffs run, and keep their feet static neither.

This team has a good core, but we need a much better supporting cast.

I know you're in love with Andrei Kostitsyn, but it's been proven that no team can win with such a bum as part of their core.

Darche brings nothing in particular to this team. There are guys out there that are just as good as hockey players, but who also bring a physical dimension to a team.

Meh. Not the most exciting move, to say the least, but Darche showed great attitude all year, so he earned another shot.
