as much as I absolutely hate Ladd, he would definitely be a good addition to the team.

I used to be a huge fan of his, we both grew up in Maple Ridge, I played against him in street hockey once, I loved him on Carolina, then he knocked us out 2 years in a row. I really wanted to punch him in the face for the **** he pulled.

But, he is a talented player, good at what he does and has a lot of experiance at only 24 years old, it's a no brainer for what he brings to the table.

I hope Gillis pulls the trigger on this. Ladd will just have to win back my heart.

Agree 100%, this team needs more of that nasty factor. Taking him away from Chicago would be a bonus.

So what do you guys think the asking price for Ladd's rights is going to be?

Maybe they could trade Shirokov for Ladd since Chicago's going to want some cheaper players to fill holes?

This team was not missing idiotic cheapshots which (more often than not) lead to penalties.

Kesler and Burrows could bond with Ladd by becoming the most hated line in the league.

^Ladd walks that line pretty well, though. You have to like the physicality he brings. We were certainly harping their our bottom six didn't do enough bodychecking last year...Ladd brings that pretty well.

If we acquire Ladd, you'd have to assume one of Bernier or Raymond is gone.

Ladd would either fill the 3rd line LW role,or could be slotted into the top 6 replacing Raymond.

I love Raymond, but if Gillis can package him in a deal to land a top end dman, and replace him with Ladd that's a deal worth making. We need more size in the top 6.

Most roster proposals have Bernier gone. I'll be extremely happy if his 2 million can go to Ladd

Does he check though? I'm honestly trying to remember.

I think all that after-the-whistle "nastiness" is overrated, but if he bodychecks hard, than I'm all for him.

Haha, Chicago can't even afford the $1.4m qualifier at this point. They're screwed.

If only Hjalmarsson's qualifier was higher...

Yeah I like what Ladd brings. Him and Raymond could stay on the team, it's like Bernier that'd be on the odd-man out. Ladd imo suits a very good 2nd/3rd pivot role kind of like Samuelsson.

no. if the Player's prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary is equal to or greater than $1,000,000 for that League year, QO is 100% of the prior year's Paragraph 1 NHL Salary.

This is brutal, from Chicago's perspective.

They need to move about $5-6m of salary in the next week, or they're going to lose Niemi and Hjalmarsson too. Doesn't matter if the compensation is just a 2nd rounder; if they don't have the cap space to match, they can't do anything about it. Teams will be lining up on July 1 with offer sheets for both these players.

The deadline to deliver notice of QO's is 5pm "New York Time" Monday June 28, 2010 per the CBA (the Monday following the Entry Draft this year). And as Dale Tallon learned last year do not tender by mail.

This line needs a name, regardless if we get Ladd...

Ladd-Kesler-Burrows

Dayum - would anyone want to play against this line?

Wait... Does Ladd have a shoulder issue this offseason?

If we come up with the best offer, can they turn us down?

Its the difference between keeping Niemi/Hjarlmasson and losing them both...

Does it make sense for us to give Chicago 'the best offer'?

We could end up helping them more than anything. We could be driving the market up for Ladd, only to watch Chicago deal him elsewhere.

Or we could end up having to give up a very decent prospect or pick that could come back to really bite us.

I think it isn't as easy as just putting the best package together, when dealing with rivals, Gillis has to be careful and consider both sides.

I honestly think to pull off a trade with Chicago we will literally have to offer them something they can't refuse, and at that point, does it make sense from our perspective to make that trade?

You'd have to think Kesler and Ladd would have a mutual respect in a common goal if Ladd ended up here. Both guys seem like they've got an intense desire to win.

And the last thing the Canucks need is to deal one of the very few players they actually developed themselves.
