Former Bolts Janne Niskala and Cory Murphy have signed with new teams.

Niskala goes from Frolunda (SEL) to Metallurg Magnitogorsk (KHL) while Cory Murphy now becomes the King of Switzerland and Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire because he's joined the ZSC Lions (NLA)

Voltaire's about to be proven wrong.

Horton to Boston. So glad I dont have to look at that pig nosed mofo as much as before.

So with Jokinen and now Horton gone, who becomes the auto-goal against us from FLA?

The eyebrow has left! Would have preferred him out west, but out of the division works almost as well.

Wow, per McKenzie twitter:

Quote:
Horton and Gregory Campbell for Dennis Wideman, 15th overall pick and another draft pick. Done
Ha! This just gets better and better. Florida gets jobbed.

When we started talking about Bouchers new system, Niskala was the first guy that came to mind. Excellent skater, confident with the puck, just not a big hitter. I'd love to see him in Tampa again.

The Florida trade... christ. They might be able to move a few picks for a Chicago forward or something, but that trade is brutal.

Horton and Campbell for Dennis Wideman, 15th overall and a 3rd in 2011.

I think that trade just changed the draft. Florida now has Wideman, Ballard, Allen, Kulikov, McCabe, and Ellerby. Now minus Horton from their not very powerful offense and I'd have to think they are picking a forward with the 3rd overall pick now, which leaves one of Gudbranson, Fowler, or Gormley for us.

What time is the announcement for the HOF inductees? Should be pretty soon, correct? Go Andy Go!

Lindros is NOT making the HHOF this year.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2010/..._fame_lindros/

Why does every story happen today? It's just the summer solstice.

Schedule released, NHL 11 cover revealed, quasi-major trade (FLA/BOS), HHOF nominees, Niedermayer retiring, Oilers coaching change, Demitra in a car accident, Outlaws to the End DLC released, etc.

Ok the value of the Horton trade is somewhat changed by the fact that Horton told Tallon that he wanted to be traded when Tallon first took over as GM. Not much you can do there, especially if other GM's know about it. Am still very very happy he isn't in the SE anymore. Still sucks if you're a Panther fan.

Kind of, i'm still not really sold on Horton whereas other people on Hf think hes an elite forward. Malone has been more consistent and hard working than Horton could ever hope to be.

No HHOF for Andy

Per EE's Twitter:

Quote:
Dave Andreychuk not selected for Hall of Fame today, but former #TBLightning winger Dino Ciccarelli makes the cut
And no Adam Oates or Nieuwendyk either. Or Pat Burns in the builder category. Leaving out some of the players they did I can just diagree with, but to leave out Burns is cold blooded.

I don't particularly understand why there's seemingly only been a push for Burns over the past day or two and yet massive disappointment once he doesn't make it.

Nice to see Jimmy Devellano get the recognition. He did help produce Yzerman into the GM he's become.

We all know of Ciccarelli's dominance with the Lightning, but it's a little known fact that he also played 4 years with Yzerman and the Red Wings. (92-96)

Still, the story that the media will cover is the one that the HHoF wants them to. The women nominated. Cammi Granato and Angela James. Both deserving, but it doesn't feel right when there's such a backlog of male players deserving to make it in.

I kind of get the feeling that Dino got in this year because he's a small name for the hall (unlike Lindros, Oates, Richter, Bure, etc. who would draw considerably more media attention, and probably do numerous interviews, etc. (meanwhile Ciccarelli has a history of altercations with media types, ensuring they'll stay away)) His story will be pretty much entirely skipped over in favor of the ladies'.

Dino's distracting us away from the PR focused choices of the class. There's no logical way Dino would have made the hall by himself this year, had the women's subcategory not been created.

Chicago to send Byfuglien, Sopel, Eager and Akim Aliu to Atl for 24th overall pick, 54th overall pick, Marty Reasoner and Jeremy Morin.

Aliu needs to step it up if he even wants to see NHL ice.

Love the trade from a SE perspective.

Buzzkill.

And yes Atlanta didn't win this trade, but I don't think they got bent over as badly as the trade board thinks. Those picks were from the Kovalchuk trade. Bit of an overpayment, but not a total hosing.

Yeah Alui VS Downie 6 times a year would be fun haha.

I think ATL lost this trade. I like Buff but I didnt think he was worth a 1st round pick.

Id say at best this is a sideways move by ATL.

Versteeg is still supposed to go, wonder if Stevie Y has had any talks for him.

Its very very weird to be so quiet on the trade/rumor front with this team, I forgot what it was like lol.

Please add Joey Crabb to the Chicago trade and take a moment of silence.

Thank you.

Chicago probably benefits long term, but this is good for Atlanta in the present, they really need to win games and make the playoffs this season, the empty seats is nauseating to watch every time the Lightning play there (let alone at home)...Byfuglien, Sopel, and Eager are all NHL level players who can produce and give you a very good shot at winning.

This really hurts as a native Chicagoan, but having experienced the dismantling of the Lightning first hand, it's a little easier to take. Nothing is more painful than the Brad Richards trade, though the Boyle trade was right up there, even more so after seeing the senselessness of the Meszaros contract.

Atlanta is getting a Tampa Bay reunion together. I'm not entirely sure why.

GM: Rick Dudley (former TB GM)
HC: Craig Ramsay (former TB asst.)
AC: John Torchetti (former TB asst.)

Still, I think Craig Ramsay will prove to be a very solid pick.

Totally agree. On paper, Atlanta just got a whole lot better today. The price was high but got to give them credit for going out and making the deal.
