With Eller on Board, Jokinen might be a nice piece to buffer Eller, as a #2/#3 center.

I wouldn't want to give him more than 3 years though at a max of 3.5 per. He really fell off the last couple of years.

I'll put my money on pleks staying in mtl. Penciling Eller into the #2 C spot is going to put tremendous pressure on the kid and to assume that he's ready for that role already is a bit far fetched imo.

Replacing pleks with a guy like lombardi is a downgrade.

I want Pleks to stay but anything over 4.5 is going to leave very little cap space to fill out the roster. I'm torn.

I think it's entirely up to Plex. It's a weird situation where if he's asking for too much money, we're better off aquiring a centre through trade or throw that money plus the savings from BGL and S. Kosty to Marleau or try to aquire Seguin from Edmonton who are fielding trade proposals for their pick.

Anything over $4-4.5M for Plex and I'd walk. Not to say PG will but I don't think he's worth it, especially coming off his less than stellar play off performance where he once again faded.

Jokinen, Marleu, Horton, Seguin etc can all be had right now and probably more that we don't know about either. If we do loose Plex then I'm sure we can find a suitable replacement to take his place.

Hope he signs and for less than 5 (4.5?)... wondering if that's even possible

$4.5M + new line of turtlepleck jerseys + promise of no AK?

What would YOU do if you were Pleks?

Got nothing against him, that's for sure...

The only way he won't re-sign is if he gets seriously low-balled or if his agent is greedy and manages to convince Pleks to go for the money.
Which players regret it?

Kovalev?

Plekanec Deal?

"UFA Mathieu Darche re-signs in Mtl and hearing final touches are finishing up soon for Tomas Plekanec on a new long term deal."

Per Kypreos

Take what you want from it.

so 4 day left before the draft and no news about plekanec............IS GONE.I don't think Gauthier will work on plekanc after 2day. He will be busy with UFA and the draft.

Kypreos might be the best Habs insider. His average is definitely off the charts.

I guess we'll learn later this afternoon or before the draft. Here's hoping it's under 5 millions per year.

Kypreos is usually pretty bang on with Habs' rumours... he had the Gill and Cammalleri signings first.

4.5-5 million on a short term deal(4-5 years)
4 million on a longer term deal (7-10 years)

I'm hoping it's 5-6-7 years to reduce the cap hit under 5 mi, and front loaded.

I'm not the biggest Plek fan and he's rather smallish but in a way he's the perfect passer for sniper Cammelleri. So the Habs would lose an important piece. Yet I wouldn't lose sleep over it. If we can get a solid replacement, go for it. They could convert Pouliot into a centre.

Plekanec is a good, skilled small player. He must be playing for the Canadiens!!! Tying up (long term) another talented little guy who had a very solid season but has not proven to be a consistent (over 3-5 years) second line center may not be the best for this undersized lineup.

I like Plekanec, but if it's 5 million+ it's an overpayment.

As long as he's signed longterm under 5 million, it could be 4.9 i don't even care. Next step would be working on finding a taker for gomez in the coming year.
