I would have been very sad to see Turtleneck Pleks leave. Glad to hear this is done, and I look forward to seeing the cap hit... Hopefully the 5mil estimate is MAX, and maybe a bit lower, but eh, he would have gotten more if he went UFA so there is no way around it. Even if he took 5mil he is taking a paycut to stay in Montreal IMO.
4.5-5M was my ballpark. 5M is fine by me with the cap being higher. I'm fine with people saying he's 0.5K overpaid, but it's not a huge deal at all. I like it personally, he was the only option barring a trade which would have cost assets.
Plekanec is a homegrown player that is a hard worker who doesn't create waves and accept whatever job he's given. He fits well in Martin's plans and has chemistry with Cammy.

I agree with you. Overpaid by .500K-1 million max, but not that bad. We have a lot of stability in the lineup now, Pierre can move to other things.

No one would have given him more than that on the open market, disappointed the Habs didn't push for 4 or 4.5.
I like the guy, but I'm not entirely sold, and this is big money.

Gauthier knows what the open market would give him, he is wise to retain Plekanec as like many have said there is nothing better out there. This correlates with Halak being traded as the money was not there for both. I am no cap expert but I think this means that some guys from the farm will be seeing regular duty in Mauntreal this upcoming season. Pacioretty, White will see regular duty next year. I think Eller is our current answer as the "big" center and the rest of the UFAs are gone. I would like Moore to stay but maybe he is as good as gone.

Exactly. He wasn't a COMPLETE no show like Semin was. People completely go overboard with the "disappearing act". I predict Plekanec being a solid player in the playoffs next year if we make it.
