Excellent move, full time goalie coach was a must.

Hopefully he can get Luongo to stop lunging wildly for pucks and calm down his movements in net.

And stingrays, don't forget the stingrays.

Very happy to see this move, something had to change there.

Good question. The fact is, he didn't 'clash' with Price because of the goalies style or size or swagger, they clashed because Price was a lazy-a** and was too busy being a party boy to do his job properly. He has high praise for Halak because Jaro is a hard worker and in that sense, Luongo is much more like Halak.

Yea I've heard bad things about Price's work habits from a family member who trained at the same gym as him in MTL. Bad attitude and always wanted to do the minimal amount possible.

Murph had an interesting tweet about the coach and management deciding about the change and essentially telling Luongo to shut up and play goal.

I remember calling for Ian Clark to be replaced ages ago but nobody really seemed to agree. Is there anyone that still thinks Ian Clark should be with the Canucks?

Not really, he would have to be full time for me to consider having him. Glad we can have a full time goalie coach.

If he was willing and able to commit as a full time coach then sure.

CBC's Elliotte Friedman called this like two weeks ago, just fyi.

I don't know anything about how Melanson coaches, but the fact that MG identified the goaltending coach position as needing a change, then went out and made a change, is v. encouraging.

Yup, here it is:

There was a rumbling that former Canadiens' coach Roland Melanson would be going to Vancouver, but any talk of changes is premature at this point.

Due to the fact he couldn't commit full time is why I was calling for his head. It was after Francois Allaire was let go by Anaheim and was available I said the Canucks had to make a play for him to get a full time goalie coach on board. A few people thought it was a very poor idea - I'm just curious if Luongo's decline over the last year and a half has changed people's minds. I'm just glad the Canucks decided to go in a different direction, even though they missed out on the guy that's thought to be at the top of the foodchain in terms of goaltending coaches. Better late than never.

“Roland has had an exceptional coaching and playing career and we look forward to the insights and lessons he can help bring to our organization,” said Mike Gillis. “We have had success in the last few years, and to take our team to the next level, felt it was necessary to have a full time goaltending coach at this time. Roland has an excellent reputation in the NHL and will support and further develop our goaltenders throughout the organization.”
How many more levels are there?

Allaire was a consultant with the Leafs this past year, not a goaltending coach. Corey Hirsch was their full time goalie coach last season.

He also wasn't let go by Anaheim, his contract expired and he turned down an offer from the Ducks to sign with the Leafs instead so he could be closer to home.

Those levels were supposedly reached after signing numerous franchise players. This next level has to be something bigger!

Agreed, seems like a solid move, glad to have a full timer G. coach. Need a specialist to take over Walter's spot.

Finally, about time we had a actual goaltender coach who is present day in and day out. This will make a huge difference I would expect. A coach that can actually focus on video of our backstop every game and make the necessary adjustments. I felt like we were constantly asking Ian Clark to go out of his way to fly here and our goalies were just trying to soak up as much stuff as they could before he had to leave again. This will bring a whole new mentality to our goalies, especially with a bright young kid as Cory is coming in this season as well.
