Lecavalier's prime has passed. Hossa's on the back end of his prime. That's what makes Lacavalier's contract so crappy and Hossa's so smart, since it won't be that hard to opt out of Hossa's as the years pass and the cap number is low while Lecavalier's is impossible and the cap hit is fairly high.

Prime ends at around 34-35. Not 30 and 31.

Rangerfan is right on this one, Lecavalier is falling fast. He is only 30 or 31 but he is playing like a 37 year old, that's why TB is so eager to get rid of him. People's prime varies with different people. So people decline earlier while some decline later. Appearantly Chris Chelios felt his prime last throughout his 30's, while other people due to injuries and such hit that metaphorical wall much sooner.

I guess so. Playing on a crappy team and your linemates are Teddy Purcell and a washed up Alex Tanguay don't help though.

I hope to God that the 15 million dollar KHL offer to Kovalchuk is true.

kovalchuk only wears 71 because 17 is retired in the rapters. I think malkin wears a different number because of this too.

I think if kovy signed here he'd want the #17

one of the biggest oversights of Kovi is that even though he scores all those goals, the big thing is that he scores em on the PP which is a place where this team loses a lot of its momentum in games. I know its probably not a huge point but a lot of times last season after the PP the team looked deflated, and with the amount of scoring I can imagine teams would have to play very disciplined or potentially suffer the backhanded slap of Gaborik, MDZ, and Kovalchuk.

That's it. lol

I also think it's his shoulder that's keeping him from playing as himself... Scoring goals. I know it's been two years, but it's probably one of those things where you're scared to re-injure that shoulder of his. There's players that tend to not be the same after getting hurt. I think Lecavalier's one of them.

I completely agree. Scaring the **** out of teams because of our power play would be key to momentum. If it's the case, though, we gotta first get on the power play. Let Avery loose.

This is the only concern I have... Does Kovalchuk hate Avery enough to potentially not sign?

If Kovalchuk hates the thought of playing with Avery we could potentially try to move Avery and then that would give us the space to bring a player like Stepan/Grachev in...

I would be 100% fine with moving Avery if it meant signing Kovalchuk. I am actually not a huge fan of Sean to begin with.

Same here. He's not the same player he used to be for us.

Getting Grachev in his spot would sure be nice, especially if we could somehow include Avery in a package that gets us an extra pick.

Avery's a pro, Kovalchuk's a pro. I'm sure Ilya would understand that Aves is just doing his job and Avery is pretty well-liked in our lockerroom already. I think that aspect of things is blown out of proportion.

Callahan-Dubinsky-Gaborik
Kovalchuk-MDZ

That's a powerplay that could provide this team a huge offensive spark. Gaborik opens up the ice for mammoth Kovalchuk blasts and Kovalchuk at the top keeps the offense honest for us to cycle the puck around. Del Zotto could put up 50+ points next year just by feeding those two on the PP. Dubinsky and Callahan are pretty much along for the ride here, crashing the net for tap-ins.

I think Avery is untradeable. Everyone except the Rangers hate him. Even the league hates him. LOL.

If Iyla can't play with Avery then he isn't that mentally strong.

Appears they're simply multiplying this year's cap by 1.05 to add 5 per cent, which is completely wrong. The cap has nothing to do with last year's figure and is based off of revenues generated in 2009-10, with the calculated midpoint being raised by 5 per cent.

Estimates generally are putting it at about $59-million. Expect an announcement in the next few days.

The NHL Players' Association voted yesterday to trigger the 5-percent salary cap escalator for next season while also voting to extend the collective bargaining agreement through the 2011-12 season, The Post has learned.

The votes were cast by the union's 30 player reps in the second day of the Players' Association's meeting in Chicago. The cap, which was $56.8 million last season, is expected to increase by approximately $2 million for 2010-11.

By exercising the union's unilateral option to extend the labor agreement, the upcoming season's cap will also allow for a 7.5-percent bonus cushion to be added to the cap to cover bonus payments on Entry Level and over-35 contracts.--Larry Brooks

Means Sather can find a taker for Rozsival

It would not shock me to see GM Glen Sather figure out a way to move D Michal Rozsival, who played much better the second half of 2009-10
