Flyers should find a way to acquire Chris Mason or Cory Schneider, these goalies are good fits and are young. Resign Leighton, he could either be a starter or a damn good back-up.

Do any of you remember who was the highest-paid Flyer in the 05-06 season? Gagne?

The ink has barely dried on the Flyers' magical, storybook season - one that ended on Wednesday night without a seventh chapter in the Stanley Cup finals, without a parade down Broad Street - but the players will begin cleaning out their lockers today at the Skate Zone.

Next season is less than 4 months away

With the salary cap expected to rise approximately $2 million, pushing it to a postlockout high of $58.8 million, the Flyers will have to make at least a few interesting decisions. Before restricted free agents are signed, the Flyers have approximately $8.82 million worth of wiggle room.

Here is a player-by-player breakdown:

Good, that means they will definitely have room to splooge on a goalie this off-season.

For Holmgren, this new cap ceiling must be like Christmas, but it'll still be nearly impossible to nab a goalie if we keep everyone.

Yeah, this cap thing is very fortunate, especially if it goes up another couple mill next year (though we look to be sliding back into recession), hopefully we don't get too greedy. Take care of business and plan for the future, can't start throwing too much money around.

Coburn is not 3M dollar player. Flyers management MUST find a way to turn those contracts demands down. You want to keep him, I want to keep him but lets face it, he was very average this season. A lot of times very much below average. Playoff run should help his stats but not to the point of 3M a year...

Whats is going on here.

i wouldn't be terribly disappointed if they could lock up coburn for 8 years or so around 3 mil. he may not be quite there yet, but he will be worth over 3 for the majority of his career me thinks.

Trade Coburn for Sbisa and a pick. I'm all about it. Solidifies the third pairing, we don't cave to his excessive demands, get a competent, well liked player in return, and get a pick.

Plus we save a good amount of cap space.

Not gonna happen, nor should it. Coburn is a solid player. He had a rough year but he has nowhere to go but up. The guy is a big body and is only 25. He has shown flashes of what he can be and eventually (hopefully) will turn into a Pronger type player (not that he will be as good or anything, just that he will be that type of big body presence who can QB the powerplay the way Pronger does). Sbisa is going to be a solid player, but he is not ever going to be the type of player that Coburn will (should) be. I'd take my chances on Coburn rather than Sbisa.

Hamhuis is not getting 4 per! His camp has floated he is a 4 year 16 million guy. If they are saying that, they should be willing be accept 7 years at 3.5 with a NTC modified to give Philly 10 teams he will accept a trade too! From homers comments, I think he is selling the flyers as a cup cintrnder this year and for them to accept less for a shot at winning! If u r a ufa goalie, Philly has to be your first choice! Yes you will make less, but this is a bad year to be a goalie, if you sign with Philly for 2years cheap you have to think that playing behind this defense will pit you into elite status! I think we end up with hamhuis at 3.7, coburn at 2.5 and sign Ellis or similar in the 2 range!

I used capgeek.com to come up with the teams cap situation if the cap is at 58.8 million if we keep the same players we had last season minus Leighton, Asham, and Cote.

Philadelphia Flyers
PLAYER BONUS CAP HIT
Daniel Briere — $6,500,000
Mike Richards — $5,750,000
Simon Gagne — $5,250,000
Jeff Carter — $5,000,000
Scott Hartnell — $4,200,000
James Van Riemsdyk ($637,500) $1,654,167
* Daniel Carcillo — $1,250,000
Ian Laperriere — $1,166,667
Claude Giroux — $821,667
Ville Leino — $800,000
Blair Betts — $700,000
* Darroll Powe — $650,000

DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen — $6,333,333
Chris Pronger — $4,921,429
* Dan Hamhuis — $4,000,000
Matt Carle — $3,437,500
* Braydon Coburn — $3,437,000
Oskars Bartulis — $600,000

GOALTENDERS
* goalie — $1,500,000
Brian Boucher — $925,000

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS
ROSTER SIZE 20
SALARY CAP $58,800,000
PAYROLL $58,896,762
BONUSES $637,500

CAP SPACE $540,738

Coburn could potentially be lower (3.2 million), but I imagine they are going to want 3.5, so I gave him the same hit as Carle. Powe could also probably re-signed for less, I he made $520,000 last season, but Betts makes $700,000.

Edit 2: sorry Carcillo's salary last season was 937,500 but his hit was 893,750.

edit 3: if the cap is at 59.24 then the team would have about $980,738 in cap space.

I like the energy!!!!!!!! Was it 5 or 6?

I do agree with those numbers though. If Coburn wants more, I say we see what we can get for him.

Coburn shouldn't get more than 2.5m

Carcillo should get around 1m

Powe should get about 750k

If the rumours are true with regards to what Hamhuis is looking for, I see no reason why he wouldn't take something like 3.5-3.75m for 7 years with a NTC (obviously)

I'm really hoping that you mean SPLURGE on a goalie. I have no desires to see anyone in the organization splooge on a goalie.
