Rumor: L.A. Has Acquired Or Are Close To Acquiring Kovalchuk's Rights
* There are "rights rumors" starting to circulate, and while I have heard the Kings may have either acquired Kovalchuk's rights, or are close to acquiring them....I have yet to receive confirmation of either.
Eklund has been on a recent hot streak. Thoughts on this?
I've maintained that LA will trade for his rights and announce it at the draft to excite those of us that will be attending. I believe Lombardi has two 3rd rounders to play with. Steep for a guy who says he has every intention of waiting until July 1st but, if LA is Kovy's first choice as rumored, then it would be a great move.
What a crazy world we live in, that when you see Eklund:, you start to actually believe it! He's been spot on and considering the amount of attention that Kovalchuk to LA has gotten, I wouldn't doubt if it has some truth to it. He would give LA a huge boost... just depends on the money he's asking for.
The people who bash Eklund to no end really give me a laugh.
He doesnt claim to be right, he only posts what he hears. He is wrong A LOT, but he is also right quite a bit too. He hears rumors in the very early stages and he posts what he hears...only a very small percentage of trade talks actually develop into an actual deal.
To be honest, Eklund is actually pretty damn good at what he does. They're just rumors, and he doesn't just make things up. This is a rumor forum right?
EDIT: I would also like to point out the Ek has actually been pretty accurate the last couple UFA seasons. People seem to be shocked every year. I dont get it. The people saying "wow, he's been pretty good lately" will say the same thing next year.
Actually, two of his rumours I've either heard on the radio or have seen on TSN before he reported them. Not slagging him, this time, as at least he is reporting things accurately, late or not, and if he is reporting this, it could be its been leaked somewhere already and its true.
It's not his MO to trade UFA rights. And by all indications the Devils will be in the bidding to sign Kovy on July 1.
Why aren't they in on the bidding at present? They have his rights.
Kovy knows what he can get and which teams are interested the most. His agent knows what teams can offer and what they can't.
Money talks and if NJ had the money and was the place he wanted to play, he wouldn't wait until July 1st.
He wants to pick where he winds up playing. Only reason NJ can be considered an option is because he was traded there. I have a hard time imagining people saying that NJ would be a big target for Kovalchuk if he hadn't been traded there...especially after the Arnott trade and salary it brought back.
