What changes do we need to get over the hump?

I would Trade Repik+two 2nd rounders to Chicago for Sharp(Hope that's enough). Then try and trade Vokoun/2nd or Vokoun/McArdle to Philly for Carter(Philly would hopefully think that's enough considering they lost the Cup because of lackluster play in goal).

Lines:
Frolik-Carter-Sharp
Booth-Weiss-Horton
Matthias-Reino-Olesz/Dvorak
Mac-Campbell-Bitz

Defense:
Kulikov-McCabe
Ballard-Allen
Garrisson-Ellerby
#3 pick(Likely to be an NHL ready Defenseman)

Goalie:
1yr Rental(Dan Ellis maybe)
Clemmensen

Kreps-Gone(Signed in Europe)
Stillman-Trade for Picks or rental goalie till next season when Markstrom is ready. Regardless we need him off the books to be able to sign a rental goalie.

its a nice thought, but no i dont think philly will give up that much for a goalie on his last year plus he's ageing... i personally think he will be on the same level of play when he is 40 like hasek was, but others seem to beg the differ..

second, i know that there will be changes on the roster this season, but acc to you the only two players we move are two players that i believe fits tallon's blue print in character and leadership. you need to think in those lanes too, that maybe stillman will actually still be here, but with other moves of tallon he will have to play on the 3rd line.. you know, right now this is just fantasy specualtion, and i recommend you to wait until september when training camp is finishing off...

just want to let you know that i do like those proposals you made, id love to get both of those players.

I like your proposals, but I'm guessing Philly would ask for our 2011 1st Round Pick + Vokoun (kind of what Nashville got in the Vokoun deal, top 10 pick or better).

Don't forget about Colin Fraser/Skille and those type of kids when proposing a prospect for said' Hawks player. I believe they just want 1st and 2nd round picks moving forward this off-season.

Depending upon our willingness to spend $, we currently have about $10 million available plus another $2.5 million, if we cut Olesz, which will count $614,000 against this year's cap. We also have Vokoun (NMC), McCabe (NMC), Stillman and Dvorak on expiring contracts, which will free up over $15 million in additonal cap space next year so we are in good shape capwise.

In terms of trade chips, we have Horton, Allen,Reinprecht, all of the players on expiring contracts, and draft choices in 2010 (3,33,36,50 etc.). We are also deep in goalie prospects (Salak etc).

Our major needs beyond, youth, size and grit, are a No.1/2 center, a first or second line RW, a No. 1/2 D-man, which just about says it all...

This looks to be a pretty crazy off season in part due to the promise of the new co-managers to effect change in part due to the hiring of Tallon, a known wheeler-dealer, in part due to the poor crop of free agents, which suggests that teams will have to make trades to acquire assets, and in part due to the availability of young, proven players from teams in salary cap hell, notably the Blackhawks.

Looking into my crystal ball, I could see Tallon making any number of trades depending how the market breaks. There will doubtless be a major frenzy prior to the draft. However, I would not be surprised if there was not already a deal in place with the Blackhawks.

Vokoun/2nd or McArdle? Not even close of what it would take to get Carter.

Good goalies are "easy" to find. Philly will never give a player like Carter to get one.

It's not easy to find good goalies.... You can have a bunch of Emery's, Leighton's, Boucher's in your organization... But they are not the caliber of Vokoun.

There is no reason to trade Kmac or Matthias. They are cheap and play just fine for their place on the depth chart.

We need a #1 Centre, a top 3 D, and a second line RW.

I don't think that Stiller would be traded because of the veteran/character he provides, but if we could trade him and Reino (and let Rusty go anywhere else but here) then the lines would be

Booth - ?? - Timmy

Frolik - Weiss - ??

KMac - Matthias - Dvo

Oresko - Soup - Bitz

Worst case Stiller goes in on 3rd line and KMac drops down to 4th line. Reino still needs to go either way. We will probably end up with Rusty sitting in the 3 million dollar press box.

The D shapes up like this

Kuli ??

Caber BA

Garrison Bally

i don't see Ellerby making it out of camp, so he'll be a call up

Here's my wishlist: If I had my way I'd get Frolov, Versteeg, Lombardi & one of Asham/Higgins/Svatos

Sign 3-4 of these 6 below:

A. Frolov (a must, and would be cool to have Frolik & Frolov on same line. The Fro Line)

M. Svatos (Would be awesome on our team, and I've always been a fan of his)

C. Higgins (Would help our PK)

M. Lombardi (Would really help this team as he plays the position we lack most and plays it well)

A. Asham (would be a perfect replacement for Campbell on that checking line)

K. Verteeg (would basically fill Horton's scoring hole, and would only cost us a 2nd rd pick to get him)

Then our lines could look like:

Lines:
Frolik-Lombardi-Frolov
Booth-Weiss-Versteeg
Matthias-Stillman-Olesz/Dvorak
Mac-Asham-Bitz

Defense:
Kulikov-McCabe
Ballard-Wideman
Garrisson-#3 pick(Likely to be an NHL ready Defenseman)

Goalie:
Vokoun
Clemmensen

Call-ups:
Repik
McArdle
Ellerby

Out of here:
Kreps-Gone(Signed in Europe)
Horton-Traded
Allen-Trade for a pick
Reino-Trade for a pick

Cap Room: We are at $48.7 Million after Horton trade. Cap is $59.6($10.9 freed up)
Add/Subtract:
Frolov +$4.5(.500 raise)
Lombardi +3.0(.650 raise)
Versteeg +3.0(Signed)
Asham +.900 (.250 raise)
Allen -$2.9 (more cap space)
Reino -$2.0 (more cap space)
After those moves we would be at $55.2 million, still $4.4 million under the salary cap!(We'd still have to sign Mac on the checking line)

I think were going with an extremely young team next season. Then the next season add some veteran presence
