What do you think the premium would have to be on that contract to lure Girardi out of a nice situation here in NYC? Most likely enough to make it an easy decision for the Rangers not to match it, but realistically I don't see Girardi leaving under that scenario.
The Rangers could stand to get a pretty high first rounder next year depending on the amount of the offer sheet the Oilers tend Girardi. They are in rebuilding mode and their pick next year would be a top ten if they have a bad year. I would give up Girardi for a top ten pick next year; would the Oilers?

No, I'm not kidding. Overpaying for Girardi is a mistake waiting to happen. At his best, he's a 2nd pairing D-man on a mediocre team. I'll take a stopgap for a year or two, allow McDonagh and Sanguinetti to develop, and grab the best player to fall out of the 1st round.
These are the type of moves that Philly does all the time, and allowed them to turn Daymond Langkow into Jeff Carter.
Let someone overpay him with a sheet and take the pick. ESPECIALLY if its Edmonton. We've got a logjam on D as is and I'm not expecting much out of this team this year. If we're letting the kids play, let them play.
The Kariya "rumor" is the only one that seems even remotely plausible. I'm questioning the value of this thread given that these are obvious fabrications.

People have become blinded by the franchises that rebuilt entirely through the draft in recent years.
Trouble is the NYR are never bad enough to earn the picks that the Pens, Hawks, Caps, etc. get
Those are the type of picks that actually make an immediate difference in your team.
Even though there is a lot of positive feedback from some of our recent years’ drafting, I’m not entirely sold that this is the sole manner in which this team should look to reconstruct itself.
They blown too many first round drafts over the years on busts for me to get that excited about it.

Who said that? Not old, but not a kid anymore. I agree with people who think overpaying him is a mistake. If someone wants him bad and is willing to overpay either in a trade or offersheet, I take it in a heartbeat.
I don't know if this has been posted before or how legit it is but supposedly the Rangers are talking to the Oilers about Girardi. We all know how much Renney liked Girardi, so maybe there is something to this? What are your thoughts? By the way I got this rumor off RangerFanCentral Wall.
