What should/could happen this summer.

I've proposed this line-up elsewhere and it worked out, so here we go on you guys.

Only a few changes and I think we get much better, and with added chemistry to go around I think we could contend next year.

1. Asuming Hammer is gone, don't care how but he's gone.
2. We pick up Frolov for something around 5m as an FA. Word on the street is that he wants to come to MTL...... I say do it.
3. Sign lappy, pyatt, price and pouliot and let the rest walk.
4. Pick up Biron to backup as it appears that this is the general consensus by all of us.

Frolov - Pleks - Cammy
AK - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Eller - Moen
Pyatt - Lappy - White/Darche

Markov - Subban
Spacek - O'byrne
Gill - Gorges

Price
Biron

Around 55million give or take a few.

Frolov's best season was with cammy/armstrong, Pleks fills in better I think so that line should be sick. We can all argue that AK and Pouliot could switch lines but what ever works in obviously cool with.

Top 6 would be prety dominating given they stay healthy.

Defence is prety ligit. Until proven otherwise the goaltending is a question mark but clearly we all know that Price is going to blow our freakin minds this coming season.........

Does it work?

looks good. just wondering how we can get rid of Hammer. He's not a bad dman, but his contract is horrendous. also, i even wonder if we're in a position to trade him with marky out for the first few months

From reports I heard, seems like Markov shouldn't miss more than a month at the most. My budget looked like this:

Michael Cammalleri - Tomas Plekanec - Alexander Frolov
6000000 - 5000000 - 4500000

Benoit Pouliot - Scott Gomez - Brian Gionta
1500000 - 7357143 - 5000000

Maxim Lapierre - Lars Eller - Andrei Kostitsyn
1000000 - 1270833 - 3250000

Travis Moen - Ryan White - Tom Pyatt
1500000 - 850000 - 800000

Andrei Markov - PK Subban
5750000 - 850000

Jaroslav Spacek - Ryan O'Byrne
3833333 - 941667

Hal Gill - Josh Gorges
2250000 - 1100000

Carey Price
2750000

Martin Biron
1500000

Spares:

Mathieu Darche 550000
Defenseman* 1500000

Total: $59,052,976

The Defenseman would be a UFA signing who can fill in for Markov while he's out, and then battle with likely O'B for who is in and who is out of the lineup. At $1.5M (or less), looking at the UFA list, it might be someone like:
Christoph Schubert
Garnet Exelby
Carlo Colaiacovo (ideal, but probably a little more expensive)
Brett Lebda
Milan Jurcina
Nick Boynton

(till Markov is back, we would play Spacek - Subban, Gill - Gorges, New D-Man - O'B)

good lineup but I doubt the rumor of Frolov wanting to play here are true(he will try to get 5+millions I think) but we never know

after that if we sign him we have to move a contract and the Hamrlik contract is not easy to move.

but still a good looking lineup on paper

I too would love to see Frolov and Cammalleri united on a line center by pleks..just seems so lethal on paper at least..

But, have to get rid of Hammer for that. That's not happening.

Wow. Three scoring lines with size on each line. Superb defensive line. Stronger along the wall in our own zone. Forward group more aggressive overall than last year. Defence stronger than 09-10 by virtue of having Subban all year. Schubert can play D or F and has a great shot. Hits, too.

This is a contending lineup, without a doubt. No Kovalchuk but the best depth and balance in the league!

Hamrlik is not going anywhere till the trade deadline
Right now you have to pay to get rid of him
At the deadline you're getting assets - it's a no-brainer

I think:

Islanders

Witt
3rd/4th round pick'10

for

Montreal

Hamrlik

I think this is where we should be going. Witt could possibly step in or with the money we save get a 6th dman off the market.

It saves us 2.5mill and gets us a mid pick. It solves a few problems for us. Islanders are going to want an experience dman, and for those who say he is over the hill, come on the guy is still averaging between 25 -30 points a season as a shutdown guy (not offensive). The guy still helps shutdown top lines, can hit, and can block shots. This guy would be a welcome addition to the Islanders. He would be a good mentor, he was amazing mentor with Phaneuf in his time with Calgary, made Phaneuf play like an allstar. You can disagree but I think so, and Witt would be a pure shutdown guy especially while Markov is out.

Spacek Subban
Gill Gorges
O'Byrne Witt

7th guy or Carle fromt the Minors.

Streit Hillen
Hamrlik Kohn
MacDonald Meyer

Ex. Martinek, Gervais, Klementyev, Reese

At the deadline you may NOT get assets because you will think, let me just hold onto him because we are in the race.

Right now, is the deal doable or not:

Find a team like SJ that needs to replace a retired defenceman that ate up huge minutes, and send them Hamrlik and AK46 for a 3rd round draft choice?

You look at it as players but you don't look at it like cap, no way doesn't matter how they fill out their roster, that San Jose is taking on 9mill in cap space for a 3rd round. I understand they are expiring contacts, but they could go the cheaper route via free agency, where it looks like Hamhuis will hit, Michalek, Volchenkov, Gonchar, and Sutton. Andrei could be valuable to them though.

Oh no coach, you're bringing baseball thinking into hockey. It's the "inning eater" label, which is one of my most hated euphemisms in that sport.

Does a GM actually go out and think that he needs to bring in $5.5M worth of filler to keep his better players rested. Can't see it , and as much as I am about up to here with AK , that seems like a dreadful return for him. Gauthier gave up a second for Moore his value system would not give way to this type of deal. (I hope)

1) Andrei Kostitsyn and Sergei Kostitsyn with our 1st round draft pick to move up in the draft (possibly the 15th overall from Florida) and a prospect like Drew Shore or Keaton Ellerby.

2) Pouliot and Hamrlik are traded to Vancouver for Steve Bernier and a 2nd round draft pick in 2010.

3) Frolov is signed for $3,500,000.00 a year for 3 to 5 years (basically replacing Kostitsyn on the top two lines).

4) Volchenkov is signed, 5 years for $21,250,000.00 ($4,250,000.00 per season).

5) Exelby is signed for $1,500,000.00 a year for 3 years.

6) Biron is signed to backup price for at least years.

Bernier - Gomez - Gionta
Cammalleri - Plekanec - Frolov
Pacioretty - Eller - Palushaj
Pyatt - Lapierre - Moen
White

Markov - Volchenkov
Gorges - Subban
Gill - Exelby
O'Byrne

Price
Biron

Roman Hamrlik is a popular name I see. LOL I just wonder if PG has something else on his mind. So thinking way outside of the box...............

Hal Gill + Andrei Kostitsyn = Hamrlik's salary

Andrei Markov > Hamrlik's salary

Scott Gomez >> Hamrlik's salary

Andrei Kostitsyn + Scott Gomez >>>> Hamrlik's salary

Jaro Spacek + Andrei Kostitsyn >> Hamrlik's salary

Andrei M + Andrei K >>> Hamrlik's salary

I look at like AK46 being worth a late first-rounder, and Hamrlik, while a value on the ice, is being overpaid by $2.5M.

The one-year overpayment serves to REDUCE the cost of AK46 from a first-rounder to a third-rounder.

Assume we trade Spacek and acquire Volchenkov for $5 million.

Would the time that Markov is away because of injury and Volchenkov was playing, would that count against Markov's salary?

If Markov was away, say, a month (33 days) and the season will be 186 days then each day would be worth a little less than .0054 of his salary times the number of days away. Which would be close to $900,000 of Volchenkov's salary would go against Markov's so Volchenkov's cap hit would be $4.1 million (or so).

If Spacek's salary is $3.833 million then it isn't such a reach to acquire him.

Is my understanding correct or do I not understand the injury clause correctly?
