Who's got the best chance to make the team next season?

Between Turris, Boedker, Picard, Ekman-Larsson, MacLean, Tikhonov, which one have the best chance to win a full time spot? Do the Yotes have enough space on their line up to take all of them?

I would think that Turris, Ekman-Larrson, Thikonov, and Maclean have the best chance of making the team. Boedker needs to work on his finishing, and I don't see room for Picard.

What's Boedker type of play? Is he a playmaker? I heard he have good speed.

I went with Tikhonov. He's the oldest, the best defensively, and had great success scoring bunches of goals in the second best league in the world. We need goal scorers, and he would seem to fit the mold of a Tippett player rather well.

I don't know what the hell is going on with Boedker. He seems terrible in the AHL. Is he unhappy? They are clearly banking on OEL making the roster, with one of Tiki/Turris/Boedker as well. I know everyone is wait and see with Turris, but I think this is his year as he has matured enough physically. MacLean will make a strong case to be on the team as well.

How many spots are realistically up for grabs?

Wolski - ??? - Doan
??? - ??? - Upshall
Prucha - Hanzal - Vrbata
Pyatt - Fiddler - Winnik

Extras: Nokelainen, Biz, Korpikoski

Winnik is an RFA, so if they don't qualify him that's another spot up for grabs. They might opt for that and put Nokelainen on the roster full time, which is fine with me. We still have Korpikoski and Prucha, too, so lots of bottom 6 guys and not a whole lot of spots. No one worth promoting, either.

So we lost 2 top 6 players (assuming no one else is retained) when we were already short probably a legit top 6 guy. The writing is on the wall for some signings or a big splash.

I voted "other." A rookie defenseman will definitely make the roster, and I think Goncharov is farther along than Ekman-Larsson is.

Agreed - I also voted other and think Goncharov is the best bet to make the squad.

I also would have voted for Goncharov if he had been included in the poll but went with Turris instead.

For some reason I get the feeling with the departure of Lomboardi likely that Turris will look good enough offensively to give him a shot. It's more of a factor that the rest of our offense will be lacking so he'll be the best option available.

I think we're going to end up with Doan, Wolski and Upshall as well Prucha, Vrbata and Hanzal as our top 6 forwards. Too many holes to fill to bring in 3 scoring forwards for another scoring line like we need. I liked the Hanzal line best as a third line, and guys like Fids, Winnik & Pyatt on the 4th line worked great last year. We have two 2nd lines and 2 4th lines, and our best option is to have three 2nd lines as I don't expect us to add 3 first liners in a single offseason.

What happened to Ahnelov? I thought a year or two ago people said he might make the team but then he suffered a preseason injury.

Just curious, not saying he should be on the list.

In the past year, Goncharov, Summers and Ekman-Larsson all grew by leaps and bounds while Ahnelov missed almost the entire year. If he hasn't lost anything from his surgeries -- which is still to be determined -- he's probably at least been jumped on the depth chart by a few of those guys.

He can't stay healthy. It's a shame because I thought he was ready 2 years ago.

Either Boedker or Turris.

Both have the most experence in thr NHL, and know what its like up here.
And Boedker showed in his rookie season he can score decently for a 2nd or 3rd liner.

Michalek,Sauer will both be gone in my opinion. There should be two open spots on d,unless we keep Morris. Michalek will test free agency and Sauer hasn't played in a long time,I don't see him penciled into the lineup.

On fan 1060 now: Maloney will be SHOCKED if Turris isn't on the opening day roster.

Lack of cash and ability to offer terms makes this a likelihood. Lets just hope the kid comes in and shows he's ready so it feels like an earned promotion as opposed to forced.

Is Morris willing to tes the free agent market? I think he looked good in playoff.

He'd have to agree to a substantial pay cut to stay here. My guess is DM is looking for somewhere around $ 2.5 M, which I'd be fine with, but that's a 25% pay cut. Morris is probably looking for something closer to $ 3M.

The problem is also contract length. Hopefully we can sign him to a 2 year, $ 5M contract ($2.2 M this season, $ 2.8 M next), but considering how much he's been making over the past few years ($ 4 M in NY, $ 3.3 M in Boston), he may want to try free agency.

As much as like the guy, I wouldn't want to spend more than $ 3M / yr on a one year deal, or $ 2.7 for 2 years. He's alright in all parts of the game, but he doesn't shine in any area either. I don't think he's much better than Aucoin for instance. Just younger.

I voted for OEL but I think its split between him and Tiki. Both could make the roster IMO. Now there's talk of Turris being there. Strange.

I expect Turris will get an opening roster spot.
Tiki may also now that Winnik has been traded.
I would still like to give MacLean a shot.
On defence, OEL amd Goncharov will fight it out for one spot. (OEL)

Let's not forget Turris showed some flashes a couple of years ago. Remember he was in the Gretz continuously rotating line system and never got to play with any consistent wings. The guy has had two full years of NHL training (which includes strength and hopefully a healthy diet for lean muscle) and a full year of top line minutes in the AHL. I think we SHOULD expect a lot out of him this year as high as he was picked. I think the kid has it in him too. He'll be playing in a real system this time with more experience and maturity (plysically and mentally).

Same goes for MacLean. He should be ready for at least a shot in camp. I like what DM and DT are doing. I still want a #1 center though. Get on that Don!
