This could be a really smart move by Philly if they play it right.

What would that be? I think they'll try and cut their losses, having already given up Parent for him.

Wow, so Philly basically traded one of their good low-payed defensmens for a 3rd round pick, nice

Traded to Pitts for a 3rd. I think this is confirmation that Gonchar is not returning.

I don't know if I would trust Goligoski and/or Letang to run that PP on the backend. Certainly not the offensive calibre of Gonchar.

They do have Malkin who can take some of that off the defensemen though, but I agree.

Even just for their even strength play, losing your number 1 defensemen is always tough. Especially when the defense corps as a whole is already weak.

Habs could use a D like Dan Hamhuis. We basically have three solid guys in Markov/Gorges/Subban. With Hamhuis we would have been more than set to handle anything for quite while. Habs should get that fourth guy and then get rid of the rest.

What is philly's cap situation? They always appear to be at the cap and I cant think of alot of money coming off their cap via expired contracts. I assumed they were going to trade an asset in order to make cap room for hamhuis. You have to wonder if some imminent trade fell through for the flyers.

I can see hamhuis making 5mil/yr or more

I think we can say Homer is the worst NHL GM I think now that the Pens own his rights, it's a done deal. Shero isn't a joke.

Worst GM, seriously? He just managed a team that went to the SCF, how can he possibly be the worst GM?

TSN saying during the draft that philly is going to try for nabakov now. They better win the cup soon because they will have a tougher time than chicago in a year or 2 getting under the cap.

Interesting thing is even if the Pens have traded for his rights, Pierre Lebrun said that Hamhuis has voiced his desire to play in Canada...it has been rumored that one of the reasons it did not work in Philly is because he wants to go to a team where he has a big role in the defence and play big minutes, something Philly couldnt really guarantee with Pronger-Timonen-Carle-Coburn.

So Markov Hamhuis and Subban anybody?

Gill in playoffs is golden.

Gill in regular season is a pain.

Rolling 7 Dmen during a game, a healthy strategy for managing your assets.

He is easily one of the top GM's, give your head a shake. Look at the talent in that club.
