TB is reportedly looking to take Gormley, wow, didn't think I'd see that, I was pretty sure they would want Nino, maybe a fall-back prize. I'm just hoping that Connolly falls to us honestly.

I'm so excited, the coolest time of the year, everyone's hopes are up. After a season of struggles, this is a place where the Wild can do a lot of good.

Maybe, if they are in a situation like last year, where they knew they could still get Leddy at #16, and someone was hot to trot over someone who would be available at 9.

Ya, see how well that worked out for the Timberwolves last night?

Not knowing enough about basketball, I don't know it was the worst thing in the world. The reaction was bad, but I'm not sure that it was that bad all-around. If they just take one of the guys we've been saying for months, I will be happy.

If there is one nugget of info you need to know about the NBA, its that it ain't worth a lick of your time.

It seems like it's more about 1 player than a team.

Yeah but it's the Woves where things like that are just expected. This is the Wild we're talking about whose drafting prowess...oh **** we're boned.

Some drafts have been easier to gauge, this one seems like there could be a lot of volatility in it. Connolly and Campbell are the big x-factors.

Hypothetically, if the Wild were to trade up into the 4-6 range for Connolly, would it be possible to pull off by offering the #9 + player/prospect (no additional picks)?

I'm not saying the Wild should or would do it - more curious than anything. Would #9+ Schultz get it done?

In theory, yes. However, it's hard to get a team to want to take a big player when they are in the process of rebuilding. I could see a team taking both of Minnesota's second round pick for them to move up to 5, but really other than that I don't know about a team like Columbus or Tampa wanting Schultz.

I don't see Schultz as much of an asset, maybe mid rounder, because of his contract. So no, I don't think so.

But the only player I'd trade up for would be Nino. He just seems like a lot more of a sure thing and impact player than the rest of the forwards past 1/2.

I still think I'd rather see the Wild get another pick or two in the top 60 than give up 2-3 to move up a few spots. I mean look at Fallstrom in camp last year and Haula's season last year...you can get some real quality players after the first round if you get guys with serious skill and upside. If we can take 8-10 players in this draft, we have a lot higher chance to get some real impact players.

I just hope they keep taking explosive offensive guys rather than boxers on skates or grinders.

There's a spot for grinders, but we just need to do what we did last year. If a move-down is there, we should probably take it, and add some additional picks. I want to stay at #9, but I can advocate picking up some extra picks. We just need to get all the forward prospects possible to shore up our prospect pool.

Last laugh before the draft starts from USCHO:

Quote:
9. Minnesota

The Wild’s need is simple — find a player who can score. Drafting at No. 9 isn’t likely going to bring a short-term solution, but the ability to grab a quality forward is something that will do for the time being. Developing players is something this team has proven it’s willing to do, selecting Nick Leddy a year ago (even though it ended up trading Mr. Hockey to Chicago earlier this season). In my opinion, though, this could be the best shot for a collegian to go in the top 10.

Selection: Nick Bjugstad, C, Blaine (Minn. High School)

Willing doesn't mean able.

That puts me in mind of this which seems rather appropriate on multiple levels:

I threw Schultz out there because it looks like Columbus is looking for defense. Hell, substitute him with Barker or another non-essential roster player.

It's not Schultz, it's the fact it's a non-essential roster player.
