I can see us going after Thomas.

Not so much after Savard.

If you could see if the Flyers were interested in swapping for Pavs ++ for Jeff Carter, then you should see how a Thomas trade would go. Atlanta needs to win now or they might be called the Winnipeg Thrashers in 2013.
How about White, Postma and a 2011 2nd for Thomas and a 2011 1st?
Then Pav, Bergfors, Oduya and Boston 2011 1st for Carter, Powe and Carle?

1st I do.
2nd proposal I laugh at.

I'm not high on Posta as many others are.

I would absolutely love to have Nabokov, but I think our odds of signing him are very slim. Chris Mason would be nice, however.

Not as far fetched as you might think, his wife is from Kentucky.

Yeah you don't need Carter... why go to the playoffs.

I don't think that BOS will be in a position to ask for much if they are shedding 5M in salary. They're about 5M under the cap now (no idea where they are with RFA offers) and still need to sign a few players (esp Wheeler and Paille) so it's not like they can take on a whole lot. Shedding the Thomas contract would be a huge favor for them, one that would need to be factored into the trade.

As far as Thomas' age, I'm not sure it's a big factor. He'd be a great mentor for Pavelec and they could play a 1a 1b platoon. That a big deal. If you can get a goalie in this league with a good attitude and a team first demeanor, that's pretty rare (right, Kari?).

As he gets older, he fades back into the shadows a bit and becomes more of a true backup. Yes, he's getting a paid a lot, but good goalies do. Despite his age, he's only been in the NHL for 8 years, so he's not jaded at this point like Nabokov or Turco, who are just looking for one last score. Besides, it's not like this team is going to up against the cap ceiling anytime soon. A fat contract like Thomas makes it easy for DW and RD to keep it cheap and still beat the cap.

And all the talk about the league going to young, cheap goalies is window dressing. Doug Wilson knows that it takes a lot more than a cheap, young goalie to win the SC. Chicago had all the right pieces, speed, grit, heart, scoring and defense. They also had a goalie that got hot at the right time. Young or old, that's a big plus for any team.

Just a possible newsflash related to the Boston signings? I believe I heard that Paille was put on waivers for the intent of contract buyout.

Very surprising, Paille did a good job for Boston last year.

Paille was a RFA. They didn't qualify him, meaning he's now a UFA on Thursday.

Pavs seemed very content once in the NHL. Seemed to keep his mouth shut and was always well-behaved behind Hedberg. I think it would be fine if Thomas were a couple of years younger, but I don't see it as much better than having Moose at the same age for cheaper.

I'd say go hard after Ellis and Nabokov. If we do take Thomas, I'd say that Todd White would be a MUST move in the deal. That would make the price a net $2 mil.
I would like to go after Ellis and Nabakov too

Well crap. Ellis' rights were just traded to Montreal for a Kotstisyn brother.

Sergei, though. He's been talented but he's more of a headcase than Heatley or Kovalchuk or Lehtonen could ever dream to be.

If Tootoo or Weber can straighten him out though look out.

It's okay, they've still got to sign him, which could be at a premium if it means he doesn't hit the market

no, if he wasn't excited it'd be more like Sopel who hasn't mentioned anything about Atlanta. Ellis pretty much tossed Nashville under the bus like Heatley/Armstrong's comments of the past.....
