Still hoping it's Bernier leaving, losing that cap hit would be nice.

Bobby Mack thinks we've got him!

It's only a late 1st, we need top 4 D and he's locked up long term!

Loving it pending who's going back.

To be honest, we would be lucky to get a player like Ballard with our 1st. I'm surprised people are at all hesitant.

Ballard is a heck of a hockey player. I would LOVE to add him to our defense!

First round pick and one of our young skilled wingers... sign me up!

Ya, Hansen just makes way too much sense for Florida; I'd rather lose him then Raymond or Grabner to be honest.

That just means he's due for an injury.

He's just regurgitating what he's heard I'm sure.

I sure hope it's not the 1st + Raymond as P&T speculated. 1st + Hansen or Bernier would be great, 1st + Alberts would be amazing.

that's why it likely won't be Bernier... Florida does not want much salary back.

all signs point to Hansen I think. hopefully Gillis can move Alberts or Hordichuk instead, but Hansen seems most likely IMO.

Luongo is going to cringe when Ballard gets upset after the Canucks are scored on.

Oh man this is so awesome. Ballard has been inconsistent this year, but he can be a VERY good player for us.

Doesn't look like anyone else really wants or needs Ballard. Tallon might have to settle just for the 25th.

I dont think its Raymond or Grabs in question, more like Hansen or Bernier. I am hoping its Bernier, but like NFITO says they don't want salary. But its still a manageable salary... crossing my fingers.

So Ballard's going to Toronto, then.

Honestly, if it's a 1st plus Alberts/Hansen/Bernier, I'm stoked with that deal. Ballard is signed to a reasonable deal long term, is durable, solid defensively but with some offensive ability as well, and is built like a tank. I'd be very happy to acquire him, although I'd also hope Gillis could acquire some picks through rounds 1-3.

Ballard is a legit first pairing defenseman and is arguably better than any defenseman headed to UFA. I would be so happy if we managed to land him. Especially because he's signed to a very reasonable contract for the next few years. He's also one of the better defensive defenseman on top of being good in the transition game and offensive zone. He's big and throws hits and fights too. He's perfect for what this team needs.

He's also just entering the prime of his career so he might get better yet.
