Agreed. Without having the salary-numbers at my disposal, I wonder if it's feasible to get both Mitchell and Kovalchuk this summer (and, you know, have enough money for the inevitible raises for Doughty/Simmonds/et al)...?

Yeah, the cap isn't a problem signing both Kovy and Mitchell. Mitchell won't be getting that big of a deal (if any) because of his concussion issues. But I would still take a chance on the guy if and when he's cleared to play hockey.

RT @Real_ESPNLeBrun: Flyers trade rights to Dan Hamhuis to Pittsburgh for third round pick next year.

I'm guessing the Penguins are going to sign Hamhuis and let Gonchar walk.

Unless... of course Hamhuis wants to wait another week for Free Agency and decide where he wants to play and how much he wants to make.

Trading for people's rights is a gamble and it looks like Hamhuis is a bad bet.

Apparently Chicago wants a 1st round pick and a good prospect for Versteeg. This makes me happy because it means no way does Deano acquire that guy.

Don't know his cap hit but he is an aging defensemen with a year left on his contract if memory serves me tight, also from what I read Burke has gotten offers for Kaberle but none that are close to what he wants so I would stay away from trying to aquire Kaberle just sounds like we have to give up more then his value suggests that we should give.

Im not sure how good Kaberle would make the Kings, but I know that nobody can say that his aquisition wouldnt hurt. People will argue that we have enuf D, enuf play making dmen...imagine the impact Kabs would have on Johnson! Just being there I think Kaberle is the guy we could to trade for that would solidify our back end. Would love to see him in a Kings Jersey.

Totally agree with you as long as we can get him at the right price we don't want to give too many assets, but with all of these prospects on D we can definitly use them to trade for a top 4 defensemen like Kaberle or a top 6 winger in Versteeg, just depends how we want to play our cards and we got a lot of aces

His cap hit is $4.25 million and he only has one year left on his contract. For what we would have to give up to get him, I don't think I would want to because he's basically a one year rental. No way we will be able to resign him at his raised price after next year, escpecially if we sign KOVI!!!!!

Of course now with Seguin, Bergeron, and Krejci that gives them 3 good centers and all they need is a 4th line checking center and that won't be Savard.

They better hope that Seguin plays well right away if they deal Savard.

And don't forget that they just signed 6' 4" 210 lb Center Joe Colborne - he played at DU & went 22 goals and 18 assists in 39 games last year. The guy is big, can skate very well, uses his size and score goals. Plus he's no defensive liability from the DU games I saw him play (because Gwozdecky doesn't tolerate guys who don't play both ways).

It was odd because he had one more year of college elegibility left?

Now how does he get into the lineup with all of what they have and Horton as well?

This guy is a pretty damn good looking player and he's not even in the picture for Boston?

Maybe we can find some way to pry him away from the Bruins.

Frickin team has Centers us the wazoo...

I can't wait until people freak out at Lombardi for not signing Kovalchuk.

Alexander Frolov is missing.

Seriously, I'd take Kovalchuk (if he takes around 7 million, I could live with 7.5 ), Frolov (yeah I know it's not happening but I'd take him at around 3-4). I wouldn't be against a Lee Stempniak or Raffi Torres but I hope we can do better than that in a trade. Not much in UFA pool this year.

On defense: My first choices would be Martin or Hamhuis after that I wouldn't mind Kubina or Morris. I wouldn't be against a Sutton type either but I'm hoping we can get someone who is defensively responsible and can move the puck at the same time and eat up some minutes.

He's a goner, so I left him off. It seems that the KHL may be a very likely destination for Frolov, but we'll see. Frolov would be 6th or 7th on my list of free agents if he's still in play.

Honestly, I would love to have a stud top 4 D man AND Kovalchuk, but it won't happen.

I say the Kings sign Kovy long term and sign a guy like Willie Mitchell to a year one year deal based on the fact he is coming off a concussion OR we trade for Simon Gagne and sign a guy like Hamhuis/Martin/Vokchenkov/Michalek.

Kings are going to have to decide whether to put the money in a forward or in a D, and we are in position to attract the top guy in either category.
