Just noticed Savard's cap hit isn't as high as I thought (~4mil) and his contract is front-loaded, something that tells me the Habs wouldn't care about him, steep price or not.

No harm in dreaming, but............think the Habs would be willing to take a $4 million cap hit and slot a guy as 3rd line centre?

Kostitsyn?

Tim Thomas just waived his NTC.

Rumor on Boston radio is that there is a potential for a package deal to one or 2 teams that they stipulated.

Getting nutty now.

Clearly you would role 3 lines too much talent to label each line lol

I don't see what the Canadiens have that Boston would want. If they want a puck mover that's only Markov and Subban. Can't see them trading either. Of our top 6 forwards only guys like kostitsyn and pouliot are available I imagine and together I don't think they'd be able to fetch Byron Bitz. So I can't see a match between the two.

In a heart beat. Savard has one of the best cap hit in the entire league for an experienced vet of his caliber.

STOP THIS NONSENSE

If we had no idea what each player made, 9 out of every 10 people would pick Gomez over Savard.

Gomez is worth it just for the way he carries the puck from end to end .... one of the BEST if not the best at doing this. Great skater as well. Evaluate talent for once and forget about the $$'s....

It's depressing to read such things like taking Stephen Weiss over Gomez. INSANITY, pure insanity.

yet he has reached the 80 point plateau once in his career with a 7+ cap hit. A healthy Savard gets that every year.

What's insane is you actually think Gomez is better than Savard.

I'd say Savard is the best playmaker out there right after Crosby and Thornton. The man's vision is unreal and he threads the puck insanely well. Just an assist machine. He's still a better playmaker than Gomez who is very good in his own right.

Points is not everything. And one concussion = damaged goods. (why is Boston so eager to move him 1 year after they gave him the contract?)

Overall game, taking Gomez every day of the week.

Look beyond salary cap and evealuate a player fairly.

Absolutely ridiculous.

Gomez is just as accomplished playmaker, a FAR FAR superior skater and much more defensively reliable (plays the PK)

Again, another who can not look past salry cap. Not sying he's worth 7mil but c'mon!! evaluate the guy fairly when comparing him to similar players

You can hide the salary cap and Savard still eats up Gomez. Savard gets more assist than Gomez gets points.

Points is not everything!

Gomez will skate circles around him and can play on the PK

If we got Savard for wingers and prospects we could consider moving plecks or gomez or even Savard to the wing, this is what Philly does in lieu of their high center saturation, with Briere and Carter frequently being used on the wing. One of the most notable comments from Briere after the POs ended when he was asked about his personal success was espousing his hope that he get to stay at center.

Cammy-Savard-Plecks
Pouliot-Gomez-Gionta

or

Savard/Gomez-Gomez/Savard-Gionta
Cammy-Plecks-A Kost/Pouliot

but you still put plecks at center on PK of course.

Do we need another small player? seriously? I'd prefer a gamble on that other rumor for Penner
