Carolina made their pick, so I'm assuming we're getting future picks

I'm kind of hoping we're getting a pick and a forward. I wouldn't mind Jared Staal and a 3rd or 4th rounder.

Hopefully this wakes some people up in terms of prospect development.
I've said all along...if you are a 1st round pick and aren't in college, if you haven't received a regular shift in two years, chances are you aren't regarded that high.

Is this team going to do anything to improve at all?
Seems a waste of a decent prospect. I know he had dropped in the depth chart but what? A Future pick(s). I'm not saying he was worth more than that but I dunno... feels wasteful to me.

Jared Staal isn't known to have much upside like his brothers, so if we're getting Staal, a 2nd rounder better be coming with him.
EDIT: However, we're very short on RWs in the system, so I wouldn't be surprised if we made a move for him, considering we only picked 1 in the draft so far. (Christian Thomas)

Maybe Justin Shugg was our pick, and they made if for us because the trade hadn't gone through?

Sanguinetti had to be traded. Sather knows full well hes ready to grab a full time spot on an NHL team and taking it away from his prince Wade Redden is very rude and completely unacceptable.
Can't waive a player if no one is there to fill his spot right?

Because maybe we can draft a Bottom 6 forward who has "jam" instead.

So let me see:
2007: Cherepanov - died
2006: Sanger - bust
2005: Staal - good pick
2004: Monty, Korps - busts
2003: Jessiman - bust
2002: No first round pick
2001: Blackburn - injured
2000: No pick
1999: Brendl, Lundmark - busts
1998: Malhotra - bust
1997: Cherneski - injured
1996: Brown - bust
1995: no pick
1994: Cloutier - bust (a bad starter is nothing to waste a pick on)
So since the Cup, we managed to draft one good player (Staal) and a couple bad ones who aren't worth it.
Everyone now has big hopes for the kids drafted post 2008, but it's really too early to judge 19-20 year olds.

if its a 5th/6th its outrageous. Glen gave up a damn 3rd for Boyle. better be a 2nd next year at least.

not completely upset with losing sangs. i for one hated the pick back in 2006. but i do hope we get some value, although i know it will be small.
he never showed anything at all in the few games he played with the big club. every game he looked lost. it was never a case of "yea he looked bad defensively but man he can pass" or something like that. not to say his whole NHL potential/career can be judged on those few games, but nothing impressed me at all. so no big loss to me. just another example of pre-lockout terrible drafting.
i hate don maloney.

It's clear that the picks aren't from this year, there are only 3 rounds left.

No way it's a first, just no way. If the two picks are a second and a seventh, I will be satistified.
If the two picks are a second and a third, I am ecstatic.
