As a Halifax season ticket holder I was really hoping he would fall 2 more spots to my Habs. Hannay is still a bit of a longshot to make the NHL but if he develops as much as he did last season than I'd say he has a realistic shot. He came to camp as a longshot to even make the Mooseheads last season and turned into a top 4, reliable defender. He's a Mike Komisarak mold, big, tough, doesn't put up a lot of points but does his job. He's also not scared of anybody and will always drop the mitts. He doesn't necessarily win all his fights, but he's never shied away from a good tilt. If he ever makes it than he will definitely be a crowd pleaser.
Another Moosehead season ticket holder here. I love the pick.
Hannay is a bit of an awkward skater at the moment (hopefully he will work on that) but he makes up for that by making the smart, simple play. He knows his strengths and weakness' and molds his game around that. He is a team first player that will fight anyone. Could be a good bottom-pairing defenceman in the future.

Not that far-fetched. I'm glad we didn't end up with McIlrath to tell you the truth, especially if we had had the tenth pick like NYR and passed over Gormley and Fowler. Gudbranson was the only sure thing defenseman to me (well I liked Tinordi too).
I've seen him a few times and I can honestly say I don't think he would be in the lineup without all the injuries/our team being terrible.
Maybe to start the season but he earned a spot as the season went on... even without injuries. Our team (mooseheads) was terrible but we have a very solid defensive core. Our problem was sustaining any offensive pressure. Which led to being on defense/giving up tons of shots.
Its a Canadian team, they did well this year, they have a strong base and one of the best goalies (Roberto Luongo) in the league.
The Canucks will let Hannay develop in Halifax and dont have to sign him until June 1, 2012.
My main focus is in Halifax, Hannay said.
Were rebuilding and we have a good future to look forward to. Im going to try to perform as well as I can and if that helps Vancouver make a decision, thats the way it will be.
Really curious how Red Line went about ranking the overall toughness of every kid in the draft. Would love to see the list anyhow. 5th toughest though, not bad I guess.

In one of its special sections ranking players’ specialized skills, Red Line Report rates Hannay as the fifth-toughest prospect available.
You can always convert player from 1 position to another. Not an easy task but doable. Not to mention, you kinda want your enforcer playing instead of on the bench. If he has enough defensive skill to defend and be a decent enforcer, he instantly becomes an elite enforcer.
