if homer does go 3 @$15m. it sounds like tim thomas' contract and look at how hard boston is trying to get rid of that contract

this is not a fantasy league . make a major cap mistake and your team is in hell for years. in this city just ask the sixer about cap mistakes and cap hell.

Can anyone verify with certainty the 35+ situation? Seems to me if he should qualify as 34 on this contract.

doesnt turn 35 until the end of July, so it wouldnt be a 35+ contract

agreed with what your saying and normally would want the team to stay away from a potential deal like this.

However, our Cup window is the next 2-3 years so the term of the contract is fair and favorable for both parties IMO (and unlike Boston we don't have a blue chip prospect waiting to get the call therefor forcing the hand of "we gotta get rid of the old goalie")

I hope he signs him for under $5 million. And no NMC/NTC please.

kinda wanted a younger goalie to grow with the core but i guess homer sees the cup window is now so why not go for it. i'm pretty sure everyone can agree that nabokov >>>> leighton no matter how you look at it.

Same story as with Pronger, he'll be 35 when the contract's first year is played, so it's a 35+ contract.

No, contracts go into effect on July 1st.

Pronger will be 35 on July 1st, thus, a 35+ contract. Nabby will be 34 on July 1st, thus, not a 35+ contract.

Anyways, I have my reservations on him, but talent-wise, he'd be the best we've had since Hexy at his peak and Hexy's peak wasn't very long.

I think the Flyers feel they have two strong prospects in Ericsson (sp) and Bobrovsky. As for the actual move I like it a lot, I hope we won't let him play 70+ games like the sharks did every year. Seems like he always starts well and fades as the season goes on. I'm curious as to what Nabokov and his agent are looking for. Hopefully Holmgren is able to sell him that we're already a good team and he would be the last piece to the puzzle.

You don't get to be in the NHL, let alone a top player in the NHL, by being a "quitter".

I don't understand the dislike of this move. The guys stats barely move from regular season to playoffs. Nabakov doesn't choke in the playoffs, the SJ offense led by the ultimate choke artist Joe Thornton does.

Ah, because Pronger's was an extension, it was this July 1 then? Well then we don't need to worry about Nabby retiring hitting us should that come up. Good point though.

Looked it up, it's actually by June 30th. Go figure.

I normally would agree, but I have seen a few games from him where it seemed like once the team went down 2 goals the flood gates opened.

It's happened with Luongo, Brodeur, Fleury and many others as well. Crap happens sometimes.

What Woof said. Besides, there's a difference between being weak mentally and being a quitter.

Just wanted to let everyone know, if something is too good to be true, it usually is.

Dont get so giddy just yet. There are apparently some kinks that need to be worked out first before this deal goes through, and Homer is saying that he thinks Nabby will wait and go to free agency.

Prior to the Olympics, I would have liked it. Then I watched him quit on his team.

Edit: I was incorrect, Nabokov will not be signing as a 35+ contract, as earlier posters noted.

7th 2011 for Nabby's rights sound fine. Thank god we won't actually give up something we have right now.
