Briere has been playing wing for a few years now, if it makes a difference.
Yup him coming back would be fine with us, provided we somehow also sent you 1M in salary somewhere. We're pretty tight, Tim's cap hit is 5M, Briere's 6.5M.

...you have 4.7M (as of now) in cap space and 18 players signed... you're fine on cap space, even adding 1.5M for a top 6 wing.

Man, I LOVE the Carcillo-spokes we made the Bruins fans wear.

Ya but Seguin's bonus money is going to have some impact, we just signed Rex today, we have to give Stuart a raise, and we've not yet signed Wheeler. We really don't have cap space.

Is Seguin ready for the NHL or does he need a year of AHL seasoning?

I'd bet he'll be in the NHL. If he isn't, then he has to be sent back to the OHL (which is fine by me - I'd sooner pay $12 or less to see him than $100!)
If the Flyers' answer to the goaltending hole is Tim ****ing Thomas I am done with this team. Why does this team have a history of not being able to get a legitimate net minder? Seriously! Just a long laundry list of bull****. They can find great forwards, great defense but never, ever, a goalie. I'm sick of it. Especially with some of the players out there this summer.

Thomas is not coming here. The interview after Tyler got picked all but guaranteed it.

You need to calm down. Thomas would be very effective behind this defense, and he'd be a perfect stop gap until one of the prospects are ready.

The dude won the Vezina last year, and was quite good this year. New to the NHL?

Lets pause for a moment, and just dwell on the belief that Tim Thomas isn't a legitimate goalie.

Weird response. Three days ago, this 'bull****' goalie was the owner of the Vezina trophy.
Absolutely... in accordance with a physical to make sure he's in decent post-op shape.
Saves us 1.5M in cap space a year, and he expires a couple years ahead of Briere. I'm really very nervous about Briere by the end of his contract. That's not to say that Thomas doesn't make me a bit jumpy, but I think there's massive reward there if he comes here and plays like he did in Boston for a couple years, and there are salary cap benefits.
I'm also very nervous about Briere and injuries... he's had some groin/hernia stuff, and who knows if that's a sign of stuff to come.
That being said, I don't think Briere is going anywhere... so it's kind of moot.
That was two years ago though, he was basically healthy this year.
Thomas is a bit overrated in my opinion.
I know I am on the opposite end of most here about Briere so after this post not going to bother arguing about it anymore, but for the record, we are not in the Stanley Cup Finals without Briere. We might not even make it past the 2nd round. 7 of his first 8 goals either tied the game or won the game, and that was before the line of Hartnell/Leino took over (the only line that scored in the finals)
I understand everything about his age and the length of his contract (I dont care about the cap hit) but if he is moved by some miracle, you better get a top offensive player in here to make up for him. I believe he is the top playoff scorer since the lockout, or damn near close to it. (with most of that being while playing center)
Boston is really dealing from a position of power because they have
a great starting goalie in rask. What about Thomas for Hartnell
Hartnell had much documented off-ice personal issues earlier in the season which supposedly accounted for his inconsistent (or consistently bad) on-ice play. If part of his resurrection through the playoffs was a clearer mind, the Flyers can't afford to lose his grit especially with Arron Asham being an UFA. They have different skill levels but that would open another need.
Same reason Leighton/Boucher nearly carried the Flyers to a Stanley Cup...
Here's a hint: They're bigger than 6'5 and they smash things, people, whatever.
Sure a system doesn't hurt either.
Yes when Tim Thomas stops 7 straights guys in a shootout, or makes absurd saves on breakaways, it's because of Chara. Chara isn't there making 40 saves. It doesn't hurt, but trust me, Thomas has as many eye popping saves as any goalie in the nhl in the last 2-3 years. The guy can flat out play. And winning the Vezina because of 1 dman, lol. Not likely.

IMO....Chara's presence keeps the back door closed and allows Thomas to flop and play out of position. Thomas is solid but I'd prefer a more technically sound tender. I'd rather sign Nabby or Mason.
