Don't we have two years to sign Euro players (not from Russia) ? If he indeed has a 3year contract, is it not a problem ?

I didnt see this thread at first so I will copy and paste my little info on John here too.

Greetings from "Foppacountry" (Ornskoldsvik, Sweden)

As a hardcore MoDo Hockey fan Iīve seen most of Johns games here in Ornskoldsvik this season.

He is a really hard working winger that can put in some really big hits and he possesses great balance.

He looks more lika an football player than a hockey player, he has gained a lot of muscles this season and is a bit of a modern version om Thomas Holmstrom in Detroit Red Wings.

His skating style is quite unique, it a lot like Mikael Renberg, he works with all of his body to accelerate and he could probably maximize his speed a lot, he is not that slow, but if he just could work more synchronized he could be REALLY fast!

He insīt afraid to dive head in front of the net in heavy trafic, he enjoys the physical part of the game.

John also is a bit like Samuel Pahlsson in Columbus, he isnt that flashy, but is a vital part of the team.

Combine the best of Thomas Holmstrom and Samuel Pahlsson and you have John Westin, he has the potential to become a really good gritter in the NHL, he just needs the right guidance, if we are lucky Samuel Pahlsson comes home for this upcoming season and he would be a great mentor for John!

If Samuel continues in Columbus, former Candian Niklas Sundstrom will act as a mentor for John, Niklas is considerd a top 5 center in the Swedish league.

Probably because his way of playing hockey is more like Canadians than Swedish, quite a lot of players here in Sweden isn't picked in the draft because of that.

He will play in Sweden this upcoming season, he have just signed his first senior contract and players from this part of Sweden is by nature very fond of staying here as long as possible, and if they are away playing in the NHL they all want to round up the career in MoDo again.

John will probably play in the 4th line with former Boston prospect Anton Hedman and the Norwegian center Kristian Forsberg (K-fop), it could also be that he will be playing with the "enemy" and instead of K-fop, Toronto drafted Sondre Olden could play as center in the 4th line.

If John isnt able to take a spot on the team he will most likely play with MoDo Hockey newly founded affiliate Ornskoldsvik Hockey in the Swedish 1st division, a team that is trying to reach the Hockeyallsvenskan, he could play a vital part in that team, the thing is that it wouldnt be that good for his development to play in that low standard of hockey. But Iīm certain that John will make it on the team!

Nope, 2 years left on his contract, but rumors are saying that he isn't happy in the US and is longing back to Ornskoldsvik, I also think that he recently built a new house in the neighborhood, anyway, Samuel might be back for this season or the next.

Yeah, compared to Sondre who was picked by TML John is very focused on how he will prepare himself for this upcoming season, practice, traning, working out was only some of the words that was repeated many many times. He is not a healthfreak, he is just prepared to do whatever it takes to reach the NHL

Google translate isn't that good translating from Swedish to English, "Derbyn" as we call it in Sweden is when two rivaling teams with local connection plays eachother, because there is always so much tension in these games.

Sundstrom is one of the best centers in both offensive and defensive play and has a point/game average as high as 0.89 the past 4 seasons.

He plays 1st center in 5 on 5, 1st pp and bp, he made a piece of crap player like Per-Age Skroder into freakin Wayne Gretzky and just because of Niklas skills Per-Age was the best goalscorer and scored most points in the league.
