Dallas Stars 2010 Summer Prospect Camp

I don't the exact dates of the camp, but I do know Jack Campbell, Alex Guptill, and Hubert Labrie plan on attending this week. I'm sure the Stars website will release a full list later on.

One guy I'd like to see receive an invite is Joel Broda (drafted in 2008 by Washington). He just finished a solid career in the WHL, was not drafted again after Washington was unable to sign him to a contract, and he has some decent size for a center.

I highly doubt he's recovered enough from his injury to participate.

I've tried calling the DPC in Frisco numerous times today and all I get is a beep beep every time.

Hopefully we'll find out a schedule soon enough.

I'm not sure if it helps, but Campbell was on NHL Live earlier today and said he'd be in Dallas this Thursday for the camp. He mentioned the camp was for one week, but I'm assuming that was just a figure of speech, so to speak.

On another interesting note about Campbell, he said he's planning on staying in Dallas all summer to work with Valley and get ready for Windsor.

Hm, Tassone is attending. Maybe off-ice workouts only?

Only notable absences I see are Korostin and Bachman.

And it is a week long. That's a change from the past. Mark at ADSP has the roster.

Having just barely looked at it, I'm surprised Chiasson, McKenzie, Bergin and Winkler are going since they're in college and has to pay their own way. Then again, Winkler was there two years ago.

Actually, few of the guys who are already pro aren't attending. I know there are some exceptions, but for the most part they aren't there. I was more surprised that both Swede picks are going to be able to make it.

I'm going to start trying to dig up any info on the invitees. See if anyone sticks out like Hubert Labrie and Tristan King did at the Traverse Tournament.

Adrien Lemay is a QMJHL goalie, and he signed an ECHL contract with the Florida Everblades after his season in the QMJHL ended. Stats are pretty pedestrian (23-31-3 with a 3.95 goals against and .895 save percentage), and he's probably only an option to backup Beskorowany in the the ECHL next year. The article I read didn't specify the type of contract, but I believe he only signed a tryout contract. He should be a FA this next season.

This guy seems interesting. Plays in the same league as Austin Smith. I highly doubt he's prepared to go pro though.

Etienne Boutet's birthday is listed incorrectly. If he was born in November, he wouldn't have been eligible for this past draft. He was actually born on June 1st this year.

2008-09: Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 46 GP 1 G 4 A 5 PTS 20 PIM
2009-10: Rimouski Oceanic 68 GP 2 G 15A 17 PTS 53 PIM
Playoffs: 12 GP 0 G 6 A 6 PTS 18 PIM

This guy is eligible for a 3 year ELC like Hubert Labrie was last year. He'd have to be signed some time during training camp though or he'd go back into the draft of 2011.

Alex Belzile seems pretty interesting. He has a late birthday in '91 (Aug. 31), but I don't know if it's late enough that this was the first time he was draft eligible.

He joined Rimouski midway through the season (apparently the team had suffered a ton of injuries), and performed well enough to stay the rest of the year and the playoffs. He finished the year as a PPG player and had a strong showing in the playoffs.

Quote:
Alex Belzile gets the nod as the month’s top rookie. In twelve games, the 18-year-old center registered three goals and added thirteen assists while posting a +3 rating. The eleventh round selection in last year’s entry draft also netted a game-winner. Since graduating to the QMJHL after the Christmas break, Belzile has recorded twenty-one points in fourteen games, failing to register a point in only two contests.

Trying to find a scouting report now.

Why are so many of these guys out of the Q? Monast, Labrie, Tousignant... now these new invitees.... is it just because there are less players getting drafted period from that league? Are the Stars scouting there heavily and just not using any of that info to make picks?

No idea .... was Ivan Vishnevskiy the last Q player selected by Dallas?

Dunno, but this would be a good one to go to. All the big guns will be there.

Define 'many.' I've been three different years on random days and there have been, on average and not on scrimmage days, around 100 people there.* I have only managed to attend one morning session (work's a B, you know), but from that one session the afternoons have been more heavily attended.

*I have never been the best judge on numbers and usually err on the side of fewer.

I've only gone twice for the summer camp (both afternoon) but both were about half full when it comes to the stands. Doubt it will be that full honestly.

I'll be there Thursday afternoon, and Friday/Saturday morning.

They probably want a shooting dummy for the Prospects to wail on. No sense in overworking Campbell or Besko.

Haven't seen Besko yet. Only Campbell, Lemay, and Nagle.

Tassone was one 30 minutes before the rest but haven't seen him yet.
