It's not all about money to a lot of people no matter what you may think. Cheech loves to play, he loves the game, and I doubt money is even a part of the equation for him.

How was Kotalik in shootouts last season?

Maybe you should actually read all of my post before commenting. I realize he is a free agent and thats why I said "hopefully we can sign him cheap"

I'm surprised Kotalik and Ott are being waived.

So, essentially he traded

Lombardi, Prust, Gormley, Jokinen, Vandermeer and Prust again to return Higgins and Kotalik

And now Kotalik's contract is going to sit as dead-space on the Flames' cap and if they don't re-sign Higgins that will be all to show for a whole pile of players.
Oh man that made me laugh really hard. Thank you.

I think you have to see it as what went out and what came in

So it becomes:

Out: Lombardi, Prust, Gormley, Vandermeer
In: Higgins, Kotalik

Being a chemistry major, Olli Jokinen is like a reaction intermediate, he got traded in and traded out, so he doesn't appear in the net equation.

Nerd minute is now over.

Yeah the Flames got bent over on that one, but what can you do?

Sutter also got a 3rd in that first Jokinen deal that was sent to FLA for Jay Bo's rights. Regardless, that's just a brutal outcome.

Kotalik is, Ott isn't. That was someone thinking the Ottawa abbreviation was for Steve Ott.

I'm a little bewildered by putting Kotalik on waivers. Kotalik was pretty enthusiastic about coming back this season to prove himself, and it seemed like Sutter was behind him. I think most fans just got over the fact he was going to be on the roster. Sutter must have something brewing.

As in Steve Ott? No he hasn't been waived. Cheechoo from Ottawa (Ott) has been waived.

Question;

If one of the teams in question puts these guys through re-entry, which teams would be interested in these players at half the price?

Oh man am I ever pissed that the Sens are gonna buy out Cheechoo when our AHL needs him.

We save 700K over two years, yippie! Might as well let him rot in the AHL and spend the $$ on someone who can help.

Boo.

Man that's harsh for Calgary if they buy him out. $1M less cap space for 4 more seasons kinda sucks.

Actually, you'd be gaining $2,333,333 for this upcoming season. I think that's fairly substantial.

Not quite. He has 2 seasons left, so the buy-out would be 2/3 remaining spread across four years.

Do re-entry waivers apply in the off season?

If yes, then Kotalik would get picked up by someone at 1.5M.

Kotalik and Koystinen are fairly good players with a good future, other then that those players are not worth much money, especially cheechoo

Not if Cheechoo was destined to suck fumes in the AHL, it's no saving at all. In fact it's -700K this year and -1.17 next year - which makes me want to launch.
