If I were O'Brien I'd probably just take the QO, the arbitration process for him could get pretty personal depending on how bad management wants to save cash.

All the more reason for the player and club to negotiate a mutually acceptable contract before proceedings close. Again, the QO has nothing to do with contract negotiations before or after the offer has been made and chances are even the team's offer will be more than said QO should the matter go to arbitration to begin with.

Who's accepted their offer so far, and how much were the accepted offers? I couldn't find a link in this thread to confirm that.

Also, if you people who want SOB gone for his off-ice behavior were Hawks fans, you'd have advocated trading Patrick Kane... so yeah, your theory doesn't work for me.
Off ice, on ice, it's pretty much the whole package. Patrick Kane hasn't underachieved on the ice, and he's been fairly professional in doing what is required to be an NHL calibre player.

I wonder if SOB would be our drunken moron if we won the cup. In the 80s F and Kane's downing the booze. At least Kane has an excuse in that he's 21 lol.

Players can't accept their offers until July 1 as I recall.

He scored a goal he didn't tie a fight.

That would be like Buff being robbed and celebrating.

I don't have a huge problem with those antics if make an amazing play. But for getting a draw in a pointless fight... no. That's just stupid and made him look pathetic.

The qualifying offer is not even really an offer. Look at it like this: the Canucks are paying the minimum amount to retain the rights of their RFAs under the CBA- nothing more, nothing less.

It doesn't have a single thing to do with contract negotiations before the fact or going forward beyond the fact that they decided they don't want to cut the player in question loose as a UFA.
It really is amazing how many people simply don't understand the procedure for qualifying offers and how they work.

Including certain radio hosts who've supposedly been working in the industry for decades.

According to capgeek, Bolduc is a UFA but the rest are RFAs...something doesn't add up.

Doesn't matter where he's off to. Didn't show much to last season to even deserve a qualifying offer. Odd move - so I'm guessing it's a clerical error.

I don't mind him either. Whats more I don't mind having a whipping boy on the team that is well liked in the dressing room.

It can be a very good tactic for a coach to come down hard on a popular & likable whipping boy, to get the team to rally/pay attention/come together as a group in a time of difficulty. Phil Jackson has employed this tactic to good effect.

Of course I don't want him totally out of shape...but he can be a decent 6th guy, can get better if he matures, finds a way to be more consistent(ly good).

Well if we qualify him and he goes to Europe, don't we just keep his rights for the future? Even if he didn't show much you might as well qualify him and let him develop over there if it doesn't cost us anything.

How is the average fan supposed to know if nobody tells them?

It's not like anyone in the local mainstream media bothers to explain these things. Consider how long it takes for the average rookie poster here to build their knowledge to the point where they can post something useful.

But it's a void where alternative media could step in.

I can't recall Kane getting in a public yelling match with a coach, or showing up mid season looking like a beached whale. These are things that effect the team ON ICE, which is a real kick in the pants.

Unless he changes his mind about playing in Europe and accepts the qualifying offer.
