This.

It was frusterating at Wild.com because (I can't think of a specific example now so I'll make one up) But you'd see a 50 page thread that said 2010 UFA list and then you'd want to know some more info on if Mike Modano was retiring or not so you'd scan through several pages and see nothing so you'd start a thread about it & someone would be like "We already talked about that, read the 2010 UFA thread maggot!"

It's like, ya, I understand that it may have already been broughten up, but in a 50+ page thread, I'm not going to read every single page trying to find 2 tidbits of info about 1 guy... Maybe this is a poor example, like I said, I just made it up, but I'm the group that would rather have several more specific threads over just a few giant threads...

I can see benefits to both styles, but for building a base on here, I think it's beneficial to have more specific threads then a few general ones. The multipage ones can be overwhelming & as bookman mentioned it's "disincentive" because alot of casual posters might feel hesitant to post in such a large thread or they may lose interest because they don't want to sift thru multiple pages of posts just to find 1 bit of info. Also, it might be the asssumption that the info they wanted has already been covered and they'll get fanned by others if they bring it up again...

Sadly, lingering effects of a hostile Wild.com boards... ( I have heard several posters mention that they just don't post because of all the jerks that rip people apart over the most minor of offenses, I know we're good about that here but if you're used to trolling the Wild.com boards, those little things might be the difference between getting some fresh posters & people only coming to read & leave...)

Just my opinion tho, I could very well be off base with it...

For the record, there are only 11 threads over 150 posts which are not gameday-related. So I don't believe that's a huge problem yet; especially because a couple of those threads have dead for years.

Or how about seeing "I <3 Cal Clutterbuck" and "bring back the North Stars!" threads every five minutes?

I totally understand what you're saying, I honestly could argue either side of the issue.. We have a NHL fans board as well as our CBS one & on both those sites we have the huge, 10,000+ post threads going were all us regulars just post in a continuos, on going thread... And I love it! BUT, I can see how that is uninviting to new people because you almost feel like you're intruding on a private club or something...

But again, I'm fine with however we go about it here, you have made it a fun, & comfortable place to post & I will have no compalints about whatever direction we choose to go with for format & thread generality... I was just throwing in my 2 cents that as we grow, smaller threads on more specific of topics may help with getting potential new posters to contribute more comparred to long, continous, more general threads.. But again, this all just an opinon from one person (me) so I don't want to appear like i'm speaking on everyones behalf. I could be in the minority for all I know..

basically, I think you're doing a great job with the site gopher & I will support any way you want to go with it.

I swear those were the only threads ever made during the board's deadest time. It was funny though to come by every three days and see one post made by another team's fan wondering why the Wild didn't have the North Stars' name though.

I understand exactly what you are saying. HF doesn't have threads over 1,000 posts so the large megathreads don't happen as much here as it does on other boards if hypothetically a thread reached 1,000 posts (the draft one almost doubled the previous high). After thinking about it and looking at what has happened organically, my take on the matter is this: There are a few subjects which work out well to have one large thread (games, other sports since this is a Wild board, the large trade thread so bad ones don't clutter the board and general OT thread) but for discussing other aspects of the Wild it works better to have many small ones. The big ones serve their own purpose while there's really only one "uninviting" thread (the general OT thread) for those who don't post that much.

Well it could of been split from 1st round pick and a thread for the rest type thing. When the waivers/signings start happening do we plan on keeping it all in one thread or having it in more than one? A way to get participation outside of our fanbase (if we even want that?) is to keep them separate. How we started to get Habs fans in here with the Benny/Lats trade. I ended up getting more info on their own thread though. I want when those type of trades to happen for the opposing team to at least give a feel for the player.

Well I still sit at the kids table, but let me assure you it involves a paper clip, rubber band and a giant straw.

I like the boards just fine right now. Post/thread counts don't mean jack. The active threads we have here now I think are great, can't add more if there isn't more to talk about.

It's a dead part of the hockey year, but there are new folks and frankly I'm always interested in ways to improve our small little community. Bueller? Bueller?
