Would be interested to see Cheechoo on a line with JVR and Giroux.

Hope he would be willing to take a $750k contract.

Cheechoo is going to be begging for a try out, so if the Flyers want him like you do, he'll go there.

Personally, I don't care about how bad Kotalik being waived makes a trade made last season look. I'd rather Sutter find a way to get Kotalik off the books if it will help the Flames be a better team next year. That's all I care about and that's all Sutter should care about.

Wow that was a horrible flames trade. Almost as worst as the Phaneuf one.

If the Preds got him, he would probably turn into a 50 goal scorer again to piss off Ottawa fans.

As I suspected, Bob McKenzie tweeting that Calgary does not intend to buy out Kotalik.

Say what you want about Darryl Sutter, but he's shown a propensity to be crafty when it comes to these kinds of things, he will find a way to get Kotalik's salary off the books without having to resort to a buyout. He's done it many times in the past. If we can sign Higgins as well, that Jokinen trade doesn't end up looking so bad.

What's more interesting is that Sutter wouldn't be doing this if there wasn't something bigger happening. I suspect that within the next few days we will hear of a move or two that will make this one make sense. Kotalik may be overpaid but Sutter does not just push guys out the door unless he really needs that cap space for something else.

If someone offers him a top 6 spot on any team, I have to believe he'll jump in head first.

He's not Guerin, Cheechoo can't skate. Everyone would be up ice in the play while he's back at his own blueline. Until they take offsides out of the game, Cheechoo isn't going to regain his scoring touch.

So, essentially he traded

Lombardi, Prust, Gormley, Jokinen, Vandermeer and Prust again to return Higgins and Kotalik

And now Kotalik's contract is going to sit as dead-space on the Flames' cap and if they don't re-sign Higgins that will be all to show for a whole pile of players.
Holy hell. And people think Burke's an idiot?

I'm a season's ticket holder and die-hard Flames fan but I have to agree with the majority, Sutter is terrible. His first 2 years were very promising but his last 4 years have been underwhelming. God help you if you still have faith in him, but 4 1st round exits and a 10th place finish in the West are not progress. He deserves as much credit for the Kiprusoff and Bourque trades as he does criticism for both Jokinen trades, the Staios deal and the Brad Stuart deal.

I think Calgary's prospects are very pedestrian and while that is debatable, Calgary is an older team that is near the cap and with a few aging superstars. Sutter did a respectable job but it's time he move along.

No one has *ever* accused Sutter of being a genius at the trading aspect of his job.

Sens fans don't have to worry

According to their website, Ottawa has bought out Cheechoo: http://senators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=533167

See Higgins has actually gotten close to 30 (27). So its nothing like Dawes getting 65 goals...

He sure is crafty at making crappy trades. Maybe he'll acquire Wade Redden next.

If you saw how bad Higgins was last year you should not even suggest that 30 goals is a reasonable expectation.

All I really seen was the few games he played with the Flames before he got hurt. He actually looked good out there in my opinion. His stats sucked in NY i know.

But I was talking about an earlier post where I had said that I was hoping Higgins could maybe regain his form from when I got close to 30.

I crunched the Coyotes buyout numbers yesterday according to the wording of the CBA.

Here's what the buyout would cost the Coyotes:

Nokelainen - Buyout price - Approx. $317,000 over 2 yrs with a cap hit of $158,333 for 2yrs

Vandermeer - Buyout price - Approx 1.53 million over 1 year - Cap hit - $766,667 for 2yrs

We couldn't eh? That's weird considering he's an Oiler now. Gotta love big talkers.
