I don't see anything longer than 2 years. Price's agent isn't an idiot. No idea on the amount really.

I'm thinking PG is going to sign Price for 3 years @ 3.5 million per. What do you think?

I wouldn't sign Price for anymore than 2 years/$2.5 per year. He has gotten worse every season since he joined the Habs.....if he had shown that he deserved the #1 job and improved every season since joining the club, I would say sign him long term (5+ years) but at this point, we still don't know if he can get the job done, so we should sign him short term and if he gets even worse, we can dump him in 2 years and sign a TRUE #1 goalie.

Maybe Halak will be back on the market by then and we can get him back!!!!

Price actually didn't hit one single bonus this year, and "only" got 850K in salary. There is no way he'll get a cap-friendly, long-term contract, his agent isn't that stupid.

More likely than not, he's going to get a 2 years contract, or even a one-year-deal. I can see him get 2M/year on a two years deal, and 1,75M on a one year deal. He has not arbitration rights, so he has next to no negociating power. I'm pretty sure than he'll get between 1,75M and 2,25M on a one or two years contract.

I would sign Price to a 5 year / $10,000,000.00 contract which will make him UFA at the age of 27, if he cannot prove himself by that age, trade him for picks and prospects and move on.

But I think that he will be one of the best goalies in the NHL for years to come!

I hope it will be at least a 2 years deal, 3 years 1,5 millions per year would be perfect

I'd offer $1.5M for 1-year. I wouldn't really want to go any higher than $2M for year #1.

From some of the articles I have read I am getting the feeling and wouldn't be surprised to see the Habs do a long term deal. They maybe able to extend Price cheaper now long term than later.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a Mike Richards type of deal, a 8-12 year deal in the $35-$42 Million?

If he pans out to be a great number on you can keep him for 10 years at a very reasonable price, plus he becomes a UFA at very young age in goalie terms at 34.

Could spread it out to help the cap like:

2 million per - years one/two
3 million per - years three/four
4 million per - years five/twelve

Could be a gamble, but could also be a steal too. If he has a short term contract and is lights out he could end up being a 5-6 million per, which isn't as cap friendly.

this is the perfect comparison...expect that price did not win a cup...yet
so i dont see why he should get anything more than this.

This makes sense.

Price has no bargaining power whatsoever. If he's signed for 1 season, I expect nothing more than 1,75M.

When does he become UFA eligible? Sign him till the year before that with a cap hit of 2.5 or less and I'm happy.

Why wouldn't he? An average of 2.5/year for the next 2 or 3 years is great money, and well within the range of what most of the other posters here are suggesting...

Now that we trade for Ellis I wonder if the SJ rumor have some meat to it. Don't flame me now it's only a speculation and I think Price will sign here(but not Ellis)

Cam Ward had just won a Conn Smythe and Cup when he got that contract.

I'm a big Carey Price fan but I'm wavering. There's something wrong with his psyche, I don't see the battle level like I did with Halak and I respected the fact that Halak would work very hard so he could get his playing time. Price seems to have zero drive to win right now...I'm just not sure he's that serious/passionate about his hockey career. Like he's only it in to make a living because he's good at it but doesn't want to make full use of his talent, which is a total shame. I really hope that's not the case.

Plus, the kid is so mentally screwed up. He has zero confidence in himself right now and playing in Montreal won't help matters.

I guess we'll find out what he's made of next season. He can be prove all his haters wrong next season (if he works really hard this summer) or he can crumble again.

Carey Price seemed surprised by the Halak trade and I think he secretly wanted a trade out of Montreal.

I tend to agree that a shorter deal (likely 2 yrs) is most likely simply because although he's clearly the no. 1 it by default. Taking his potential in to play he'll get more than he should but I'd still think he'd be around 2M.

Good god, I hope this is his year. Please.

At least 2 million less than what Halak signs for.

If not, Gauthier lost that trade.

2 years/2.7 mil a yr is my guess.
And he will beacome a UFA in July 2011.

No more Halak and no more Price. Let's start again from scratch !

Nice research but that was a couple years ago, the cap is higher so goes the salary. I expect no less than 3M per year for his new contract.

p.s. I'm not Carey Price agent.
