According to some members on the other thread, Ellis didn't want to be a backup in Nashville. They believe he won't sign with us...

You're getting a great goalie if you can sign Ellis, well loved in Nashville.

For those in the media, he's a great interview as well.

What did you expect for Sergei? No team was going to give a draft pick for him. Its the best return possible imo.

Personally don't think its a great return, Boyds a center, what happens to Moore? Ellis won't want to be a #2..

I know both players very well... I said we gave them Sergei for nothing because both players are UFA!

Boyd wasn't offered a qualifying, so he's UFA!

For a second I thought we got Jared Boll so I almost orgasmed but then I realized it was Dustin Boyd.

Good deal though. I like Gauthier.

Boyd is a bit like Nystrom, suposed to be a 2nd 1st liner, but never reach his potential.

If they are both UFA we just got ****ed.

We won't sign Dan Ellis but Boyd can be a solid 3rd 4th liner who can score sometimes.

The only way he signs here is if he thinks Price won't be able to stay the starter for the whole year. I personally don't think he'll sign, but we'll see.

And I hope we will learn what the future considerations are...

Pretty sure he wasn't qualified though. TSN has him as UFA.

Guys......it's Kostitsyn for Boyd. Please tell me 1 reason why Ellis, who probably still feels he can be #1, wouldn't at least check what's out there for him.

So let's rephrase myself. It's Kostitsyn for Boyd AND the chance to sign Ellis ahead of everybody. But I don't see how he'll be interested in already being called the 2nd goalie....nor do I see him making less of what he was doing....Ellis was making 2 M$ last year.

Another thing.....isn't Ellis a "big brother" to Price or is he, again, tough competition for him? I really though everything was put on Price here and that we'd had a secondary goalie coming....Ellis is more than that.

It might be that way, we still got rid of a headcase in ezchange of a chance of getting one of the best #2 goalies in the league and an all right bottom-6 player with some upside.

Still more than I anticipated.

Yeah, all of us would've preferred Shea Weber too.....you get value based on the value you give.

Considering that we had to trade Sergei - the return is better than expected because we got a NHLer. However, in a few years, we are going to wonder why we did this and how we could let Sergei get away for nothing.
Like the Riberio trade, there is very little upside here. (Conversely, this is why I had no problem with the Grabovski for Lang trade - we had a need and a it cost us a prospect for it, or the Lats trade -the teams took on each other's problem and each took on project with upside.) Here we are giving up on a young player who has tremendous offensive potential for a grinder at best.
It puzzles me why our management cannot get along with players who can actually put the puck in the net, a problem we have had for years.

Maybe MTL can flip Ellis's rights to a team like Atlanta, Philly, Dallas. Ellis wants a chance to be a number 1 so I don't think he's going to sign in MTL. It would be a great trade if he did though.

That was my first reaction as well. No future considerations on RDS tho. And don't forget both are UFA, so we basically traded for rights, but if we sign either of them it will be a good deal.

Bottom line is that there is no room for Sergei in the top 6. Now we have the flexibility of filling the spot he left behind with a better fit in the bottom 6. We win the trade if either Boyd or Ellis signs, and we don't really lose it, imo, if they don't.
