He's overpaid on sample sizes and reclaim projects too many times to list, both resignings and FA, so the situation is no different.

You nickel and dime guys who were healthy scratches 6 months ago and your own RFAs, nothing to do with anything else except being a smart GM, for once.

I'm upset that Christiensen didn't accept the offer because now that means we continue the somewhat inevitable shuffling in and out of players every off-season. I bet whoever we get to replace EC won't even be here by the trade deadline.

The fact that Slats refused to qualify him to avoid arbitration was one thing, attempting to get him to sign cheaper and longer would rub anyone the wrong way.
The guy was headed to the AHL when we plucked him off the waiver wire (the 2nd time he had been waived last year). He's been on 4 teams in the last 3 years. The guy should just be happy to have a job at this point.

If he was smart, he could have parlayed this 2 year deal into an actual career, and then gotten a decent payday when he turns UFA. Instead he'll sign with some team, play 3rd line minutes and not produce, and probably get waived again.

Christensen can get more than 6 figures a year in this league. Doesn't matter if Sather gave him another chance, he's going to do his part to get his cash.

I think $1mil per for a year or two is fair value, especially the way we hand out cash like this to crap free agents. The fact that Sather nickel and dimed the offer down ~200K is a slap in the face.

And I hope to god it doesn't result in Sather going out and spending some insane amount of cash to land a Lombardi, or going with an awful stopgap at center like Modano, Eric Belanger, or Brandon Morrison.
I really hope they do, because thats overpayment for a guy who has proved nothing in this league.

There's a good chance Christensen wouldn't be either, he's been the antithesis of consistent.

Christensen is pretty much a moron here. No other team is going to give him a chance to play with a star and ride his coattails like the Rangers.

He'll be waived halfway through the year

Maybe Stepan can win the spot. Rangers have said they would like him to win a job this year, but it remains to be seen if he's ready. Most have assumed he isn't, but you never know.

EC is a lil slow if he thinks he'll get another offer. It is a lil worrisome though, as like it or not he was a good option to have at center, and were rediculously thin at that spot as it is. Unless D Step makes the jump.

So NYR rescues Erik Christensen off journeyman scrap heap, puts him with Gaborik and he rejects two-year offer. Gratitude's fleeting...

I'd at least like to see an attempt at building chemistry between players from 1 year to another instead of game to game.

hes probably just waiting for his u of wisc application to be approved

he always wanted that college degree

seriously, this is a curious move. 2 yr deal would seem reasonable unless he says to himself.... " no way i take that deal and then play 1c for these guys".

he threw away a 2 yr deal for what ?

now were down to

capt quaalude
boyle

derek stepan is quietly saying to himself.......

phuk yeah baby

on a side note, its kinda funny how the guy was so key a few days ago and now hes being minimized.

He's just helping us out. He'll sign with Minnesota and be waived and we can pick him up mid-way through the year and only pay a pro-rated portion of his salary!

Best of luck to Christensen. Probably just trying to cash in on his success with Gaborik. Can't blame him.

I have a feeling Christensen will come crawling back to the Rangers sometime this summer.

I doubt there are many other NHL teams interested in him. And none of them will give him an opportunity to be on their first line centering one of the league's best snipers.

I'd like for him to be here, but if he's not, I have no reason not to wish him the best. He seemed to be a good guy and he was a good contributor here.
Id say what's best for him is to stay on the team that is willing to give him first line minutes alongside one of the best offensive players in the league despite his lack of production and the fact that he's been on and off waivers a few times in recent history.

link?

Sather picked up Christensen because he thought he might help the team, not because he felt any compassion for Christensen on a personal level. it was a business decision for Sather and it's a business decision for Christensen now.

why should he be more grateful to Sather than Sather is to him? Sather benefited from his play as much as Christensen did from the opportunity.

If Christensen was still centering Gaborik in 2011/2012 this team would have far bigger problems than chemistry.

When my Ducks waived him i thought that was surely it for him in the NHL. Turned out he found a lightning-in-a-bottle situation with Gaborik and got another chance. How he thinks there's a market for him outside the Rangers seems incomprehensible.

Will not feel sorry for him at all when he signs somewhere outside Stockholm in October.
