Yeah that... didn't turn out to good in retrospect.

In EC's case, there is no point crying over spilt milk. Dubinsky can move back to center, and we are off again.

Surprising the Rangers trying to sign him for two years. Apparently the low ball numbers strategy didn't work. Oh well. Some other team might pick him up but I doubt they'll give him more than a year.

The guy has skill and worked well with Gaborik but he's too soft--even playing with the shoulder injury. It's not a big loss. Maybe time to try Metropolit--he's played for just about everybody but us. Do it Glen.

Poni couldn't mesh with Malkin or Crosby. Let that sink in for a little bit.

The Rangers have begun negotiations aimed at keeping impending free agent enforcer Jody Shelley in New York and off the market.

GM Glen Sather is believed to have offered Shelley, who earned $725,000 last year, a two-deal deal in the neighborhood of $850,000 per.

Shelley's representative is expected to make a counter proposal.

I wonder if EC is just going to see if anyone out there is willing to pay him more on a single year basis. I bet he could always return to the Rangers on a two year deal <$1 million per year.

2 year offer is surprising to me. I'd want to keep Christensen in playing for his career mode... wild he turned it down.

I think Christensen is very upgradable.

I have less faith they can upgrade what I saw Shelley add to this team last year. Hate to overpay, but I REALLY like the chemistry the team showed after Shelly got here.

Gotta re-sign Shell and Prust. They do good stuff, and win fights.

I REALLY hope Shelley is back next year. Strengthen that locker room and provide some toughness all at the same time.

$750,000 is what Christensen made last season. His QO would have been $787,500. This was a player destined for the Manitoba Moose before the Rangers claimed him off waivers. The two year offer was more than generous.

So when you combine Brashear 1.4 mill cap hit that we are on the hook for with Shelleys possible 850k hit. We are dedicating 2.25 mill of our cap to the enforcer role. When we could have just re-signed Orr for 1mill per for 4 years and he is 10 years younger and already one of the best in the league at punching people in the face. Love it.

Agreed, big gamble on his part. Whoever said, "He'll be waived by mid-season," may be right, heh.

If Glenn Sather had a roast, that's how you should start your speech.

I would prefer to see Shelley sign a 1 yr contract. $850k is a lot. Especially since they offered EC 100k less. That's actually kind of insulting to EC if those numbers are accurate. Not the number but Shelley getting the better deal although I guess Shelley is much older so it could be a seniority type of offer. edit: and it's true I'd rather have Shelley on the team over EC but still that's gotta hurt the ego.

Brashear was a big big mistake but Shelley > Orr IMO

Yea, I mean idk how much Sather was offering him but the guy has got tremendous skills and soft hands (great for shootouts). But you don't know if he's going to show up or not. 26pts in 58gms is not nearly sufficient. He did have a chance in Atlanta to play with Kovalchuk. It didn't work out. He had a chance to play with Gaborik here in NY. Gabby put up 42g so I suppose it worked out well but Christensen surely knows how replaceable he is (4 teams within a 5 year span).

Sather must have literally offered him peanuts.

I'd love to get Marc Savard back though. From left to right: Dubinsky, Savard, and Gaborik. I know that's unlikely but, just sayin. Plus IDK if he's a concussion away from ending his career like Lindros and Lafontaine.

I bet EC wanted the one year deal so if he has a good year he can cash in after. The 2 year deal is Sather realizing EC very well could have a solid year and hopefully have him under contract, use him as trade bait that off-season.

Freaked me out there for a minute. You think he'll regret passing? Did he play well enough to get 1 mill per from some other team.

We throw these numbers around on here like its play money but $250,000 is still a lot of money

He may regret it. Like Levitate said, he may get more money elsewhere, but it's hard to imagine he'll find himself playing with someone like Gaborik. Can he post good numbers by himself? I don't know. Big gamble for him...

EC won't be a Ranger if he tests the market and realizes he can't get much more. Would your boss give you your job back if you left seeking greener pastures and couldnt find them?
