Fight in camp

HEADLINE ARTICLE: PASHNIN (NEW RUSSIAN DRAFT PICK)

IN THE SCRIMMAGE HE FOUGHT Ethan Werek.

The coaches allow rookies to drop gloves during SCRIMMAGES in rookie camp!

Lets just have some prospects break hands and jaws and set us back a little farther.

AM I SEEING THIS WRONG?

I don't think that this is uncommon (that they allow it). A few years back a minor league player trying to make the Avs got into a fight with Ryan Smyth (I think).

I don't think punching your team mate in the face helps build team chemistry.

Are you guys serious ? Fighting was a huge part of the game at one time when emotion was allowed. These kids doing this tell me they both want to make the team and show the NYR they are here for a reason. Thank you boys for showing some heart

This.

It's only a problem if someone gets hurt. It's obvious these guys play hard and are taking playing for the NYR seriously.

The Rangers (even now without the AHL's all time leader in the "fastest skating competition" out of the picture) still have many prospects back there. I'm anxious to watch both of those Russians play.

Good. No problem whatsoever with guys literally fighting to make the team.

There's nothing wrong with that at all, in fact fighting in practice is kind of common at most levels of organized hockey.

As long as it's not Mcilrath fighting anyone, it's ok. He could hurt someone lol.

as long as it doesn't go overboard to fights in locker room, hotel room, etc, i love the enthusiasm. things get heated on the ice. if both these guys get a call up at the same time and need to take a plane to ny to catch a game together at MSG at some point, you dont think they'd be sharing some laughs over this incident?

Pashin was extremely physical, and especially chirpy with Werek today during a scrimmage in which he stood out, according to Zip.

So that's good.

Maybe the young Darius Kasparitis envisions making the team after his contracts up in Russia.

Respectfully disagree. I played Water Polo for a long time throughout school and for clubs and stuff, and I can remember on more than one occasion I had problems with certain teammates. (If anyone's familiar with this sport, I was a goalie, and a set-man (guy who basically plays in front of the net - lots of phys contact)) I remember one time, playing set, things got out of hand and a teammate punched me in the face, resulting in a full on brawl (in the water). Later at the doc's (upstairs) we made up and ended up becaming really good friends, joking about it a lot for years after. If it never happened, we wouldn't have been as friendly guaranteed.

In water polo, fighting is as rare as it comes, and so with a sport like hockey, where its more or less commonplace, I don't really see this as that big of a problem.

Point is, it happens, and I don't doubt they bought each other a beer after.

Haha..very true.

I agree in that aspect but it wouldnt be the first time there was a freak injury in sports. And i understand the intensity aspect.

But to take the risk of injury from fighting a teammate in a rookie scrimmage, i just find stupid.

especially with a defenseman fighting a center.

I have no problem with it. And as Dagoon said, its part of hockey. You're playing for a spot, not here to make friends. Its business.

i understand what you're saying for sure. and even if they were throwing haymakers i'm sure when whoever went down first the other guy stopped.

it's just part of the sport. if someone challenges you you can not back down, but more than likely it's two kids in the heat of the moment (sound wrong to anyone else??) who dropped them at the same time and that's the end of it

And it's not the first time teammates will fight each other. And it won't be the last. It is a matter of ZERO concern.

you really can't say whether or not you should let guys scrap without seeing the situation develop. there is a huge difference between 2 guys scrapping and one guy trying to kill another...if it was a lopsided fight they wouldn't allow it to continue. they aren't gonna let mcilrath kill stepan, etc.

and i think it can help them grow together. werek probably went after him thinking 'this little russian punk thinks he's gone take a shot at me' and then pashnin stands up to him and 'backs up' his own play. i'm gonna speculate that werek and probably some others came away thinking more highly of the kid then they did going in
