Not saying this matters much, but sometimes you don't change what's working.
I think it was reported on here (not sure which thread) that Colton had a great desire to play in Toronto. Maybe we tried, and he wasn't hearing it.

GM Glen Sather is believed to have offered Shelley, who earned $725,000 last year, a two-deal deal in the neighborhood of $850,000 per.

Shelley's representative is expected to make a counter proposal.

ok I will say this for the 12223373733737373 time Torts hated Orr and wanted him out of NY. ORR wanted and asked for 850,000 . The islanders offered him 925,000 and he told the Rangers about it and wanted to return . Torts told Sather no and Sather resected the coaches wishes and said they weren't interested at that price. Burke heard he was going to sign for 925 and offered a extra yr and 75,000 more per season. Orr signed. Torts ran orr out of NY

I hate when teams pay 4th liners a million and I dont know why

if he takes it good and if not I wont lose sleep

Orr should thank Torts then. Two million times! Don't forget either, that it was Dolan who insisted that Orr be in the line up every night, while Renney was the coach. Colton should thank Dolan too!

Only thing I'll say is that Orr is pretty overpaid now and that I don't think Tortorella just randomly dislikes guys either.

Listen man I am not going to get into a pissing match with you. It is publicly known that Torts likes to bully certain guys and has a publc dislike for certain players. The facts are out there read them. Mara,Orr Lisin alone on the Rangers.

Enver Lisin deserves to the crap that he got. The guy handles the puck like a live grenade and is so frantic with the puck.

Colton Orr. Liked him a lot. But Shelley >>>> Orr.

Paul Mara, liked him too. But really, he's a dime a dozen.

Resign Shelley. I can't believe I am hearing "Byers" instead of Shelley.

Really? Really.

The guy has done nothing.
"He scored 1 goal in 5 games."
Yes, and wasn't Aaron Voros leading the NHL 2 years ago in scoring in like the first 7 games or something? C'mon...

Not saying that Tortorella doesn't dislike guys, but I don't think he just randomly does it for no reason.

I just want to remind all the Shelley lovers of what a short sample we got of Jody. He was good but I don't wanna go overboard to try and keep him, because I don't think we are going to see that level of play out of him through 82 games. I'm not sure why Brooks has such a hard on for him really.

There's not a lot to like about Colton Orr's game, other than his attitude and fighting skills there's literally NOTHING to like.

The plan isn't to play Shelley for an entire 82. That's what Weise and/or Byers is for. You play Shelley against teams like Philly or teams with a heavyweight.

I'd say he plays 60 games max.

2 years at 850k. Earned 725k last year. What's the need for a counter proposal from his agent? Take the money. I hate paying 4th liners and goons. I wouldn't go much higher to retain him.

You right on the money on that Dagoon. Torts ran this kid out of town. He would have stayed if the offer was presented before he was a UFA...and for less than what he got on the open market.

We lucked out however...

Shelley is the best option of the bunch. Orr as a fighter is fantastic, but he's just not quick enough to be a real difference maker with the puck, or even making hits. Occasionally he can run into the big hit, but that is about it.

Shelley is a better player, AND he has some quickness where he can get in position to make hits and also make defensive players. He's only a slight drop off with the fighting from Orr, plus he's fantastic in the lockerroom. Something that is STILL vastly underrated by too many people. Lockerroom and attitude are unbelievably important.

I'm just going to throw this out there, but not 1 of those 3 was worth holding on to. He dislikes players for valid reasons. Lisin is a disaster, good guy by all indications, but not an NHL caliber player. Orr is one of the best at gooning it up, but a goon at the end of the day, not a terribly unique skillset or anything. Mara was a great guy and an okay player, definitely NHL caliber but certainly not irreplaceable and I was always a bit put off by his lack of emotion when it was called for.

I think its funny how often people say Torts is a "bully". By its literal definition bullying is using your power over someone to make them do what you want them to do. That sounds a lot like coaching to me. The word has negative connotations, but any good coach in any sport should use their power over their players to make them do what they want. How you do it is the key I suppose. I know you don't approve of how Torts gets the players to perform, but I do and many others do as well. Honestly, I always found it kind of strange that you seem very drawn to the toughness angle of the game and yet you don't approve of a coach's actions when they are really all about being tough and making players work for their minutes. I don't mean that as a personal attack at all, we all have our quirks and like the game or certain characters in it for different reasons, that just stood out to me as sort of interesting.

Anyway, those players weren't worth keeping in my opinion and he was doing his job as the coach of the team to get rid of them.
