We all know the free agent market next year is a pretty good one with the obvious top tier players to go along with players like david backes' and patrice bergerons of the world. We will still have Drury and Rozi (and redden if not sent to hartford) on the books and we have to sign our rfa's. For pur speculation what do you think Dubinsky gets next year, keep in mind he'll be arbitration eligible this time.
It really depends on a lot of things with dubi. if he plays center or on a line with gaborik the whole entire year he could really tear it up and get around 3.5-4. but if he stays on the wing (points on wing are not as valuable as center) and nets under 60 points hell be right around 2.75-3.25 imo
IMHO he shouldn't make anything more than $3 mil on his next contract... If it's going to cost more to retain him we need to shop him... Can't pay more than $3 mil for a 20 goal, 40-50 point guy....

Care to elaborate? if Dubi is getting $3.5-4 mil, certainly Callahan is getting a comparable salary if they're both putting up around the same # of goals and points... That's too much money to pay for the production they provide and the eventual roles they'll slide into when our prospects with higher upside develop some more... Callahan and Dubinsky will likely find themselves on our 3rd line...
What if both players continue to progress after their next contract, what will their next contracts look like, upwards of $5 mil?
I like Dubinsky as much as anyone but not to the point where I'm willing to overpay him for the role he fills on this team...

What makes you think Callahan and Dubinsky are going to be putting up similar offensive numbers for their careers? Dubinsky outscored Callahan by 7 points in 8 less games this season, and I fully expect that trend to continue. Why? Because Dubinsky is the better offensive player in nearly every facet of the game.
If Dubinsky scores 20-25 goals and 55-60 points like I fully expect him to do next season, you cant **** him with salary just because you think Chris Krieider is going to take his place in a couple of years. Thats the very definition of bad managing.

He'll get what the market says he should get based on his production and based on being an arbitration eligible RFA, whether you agree with that or not.

They aren't going to use a UFA contract to determine the salary of an arbitration eligibile RFA. If Dubi goes to arbitration, the arbitrator will not consider what David Backes is making. Dubinsky's agent knows this, so he won't use that as an argument to get Dubi more money.

Let me know when he scores upwards of 60 points... Right now he's a 40-50 point player... That's what I'm basing my comments on... But if you want to pencil him in for 60 points and upwards of $4 mil on his next contract, be my guest...
Calllahan got more money last time because he had arbitration leverage. This time, they will essentially be in the samne position. Dollar amount probavbkly depends on how many free agent years the Rangers buy out. Longer contract, bigger dollars.

One is a RFA and one is a UFA.
That is a huge difference when it comes to contract and no professional agent is going to try to trick a GM into giving the same type of money that a UFA got because they would get laughed out the door.

true but a young power forward like backes will get overpaid especially considering what ryan malone got. I just hope he doesn't try to play in that ballpark
I'm thinking 2.5 at the least depending on his performance next year id say he could go up to 3.5 if he stays consistant and keeps progressing. Am i the only one that sees a potential captain in Dubi?
