If Boosh is gone, then Leighton becomes a slightly overpaid backup.

I have a feeling that Boosh is staying though.

Nabokov/Leighton would be fine with me.

NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. What an awful deal. Terrible. Why Holmgren, why? Why not just WAIT until tomorrow, then throw 1.55 too much at Nabby/Turco rather than plain waste it on Leighton, what gives!? Even if he's the backup, it's almost 600k more than Boosh would have been making as backup to do the same thing.

At best, we get Mason now, which would be okay. More likely we see Ellis, or Biron or Niitymaki come in to fight for #1 with Leighton. Awful. I'm going to go smash something.

I don't mind him as the backup....but I have the bad feeling he's not the backup.

Pannacio:

tpanotch Even w/Leighton re-signed, the Flyers will still look at GT tomorrow I am told, hoping someone lowers their price
Then why the * are you signing a goalie today you jackasses? My *ing God.

Fine with me. Lock him up just incase something else falls through. Do we possibly have a Boucher deal almost final or will he be cut? No chance they roll the two of them...someone else is coming.

I'm fine with any combination of Ellis, Turco, Nabokov, or Mason with Leighton as the backup.

That's the only acceptable situation here though.

Bobrovsky and Eriksson are both more skilled than Zatkoff, and in theory, both could be ready sooner. God knows I'd trust Bobrovsky as a starter this season if the only other option was Zatkoff.

Honestly, I'd give Leighton the reigns before I let either of them give the NHL a go only because I don't know how they'll perform. (And I'm one of the biggest Leighton haters out there.)

So no. Why are so many Los Angeles fans so obsessed with their goaltending prospects?

Outside of Bernier you have nothing special other than Quick's contract. Get over it.

I come in peace.

Do you guys expect him to be the starter or part of a rotation? Seems feasible to add someone like Biron or the like and rotate the two, which at least would give both of them breaks. Not the stopper you guys were hoping for but all things considered I think that's better than Leighton starting 65+ games.

EDIT: Zatkoff will be the guy in Manchester next season. Doubt LA moves him.

Did you not watch him crush our hopes and dreams in the Stanley Cup Finals?

Yes he got us there, but in the end he wasn't good enough, and don't tell me another goalie couldn't have done what he did. Many a goaltender have done far more with much less in terms of defense...

you know what that whole goal debate really irks me..

if you watch that goal, it wasnt soft.. it was actualy a perfectly shot by a guy who knew exactly were he was putting that puck..

Kane waited till Leights started to make the move to the other side anticapating the pass he thought was bound to happen.

vid replies from both guys confirmed it.. Kane said he knew exactly were he was gonig with that puck, and Leights said he saw motion from the left side of the net anticapating a pass..

the split second he made a move Kane fired the puck under his pads.. why do you think he imediatly started jumping for joy..

he didnt just "fire it on net".. that goal was plain and simple a beautiful shot.. but it sure does suk..

The contract doesn't really bother me...the feeling that we're done with goalie moves for the offseason (despite Pannacio's tweet) worries me greatly.

I don't want to be praying for Vokoun at the deadline all season.

You can't "cut" Boucher... it's a guaranteed contract. They could buy him out, I suppose... but that's an unnecessary waste. We don't really want to put him in the AHL, cuz we have two young goalies that need the playing time that should be down there.

Maybe someone would like to deal for Boucher to be their backup, IDK.

But back to the things falling through... there are more serviceable goalies available than there are spots. There is literally no way we would have come out of free agency without an upgrade over Leighton.

I think the Flyers are gonna try to low ball every goalie in sight in FA and then when nothing happens for them, they're gonna be like, whatevers, we got Leights!

FML.

I Think this is pretty cheap, and do able as a number 2 goalie. Boucher makes 925k, Leighton would be a better backup even for the extra 600k

I just dont want him to be the starter. Leighton would be fine to backup an older goalie like Turco, Mason or Nabokov since he can play more games than Boucher.

trade Boucher, and Sign Turco and I am fine with this. Stay with Leighton and Boucher and I hate it

I forgot it was okay for a goalie to give up a Stanley Cup losing goal from the side angle as long as the shooter put it in a spot that the goalie is supposed to have covered but didn't.

Even if they re-sign Coburn for $3, they can only realistically sign a goaltender for $3.5 if they ship Boosh out.

i've never said Leighton/Boucher was the ideal paring ??

ever..

i simply want Leights here.. and from there he needs to earn his role be it starting or backup.. there are no free gifts if you ask em..

i want him as starter, but only if he can earn it in camp.

Yeah I'd be fine with any of those combinations too. But if we had waited it out Leighton could have been had for less. There's such a glut of guys as good as if not better than Leighton out there there's no way he would have been signed. Look at last year when Biron had to settle for 1 mill. for one year with the Islanders. If Holmgren had just sat tight for another 2 days we probably could have had him for half a mill. less of a cap hit.

Homer just seems like he's in panic mode. He doesn't want to wait until July 1st to get things done even though trying to sign these goalies before they get out onto the market and see just how low their value really is is stupid.
