Ellis seems like a "say the right thing all the time" type of guy but I really hope he isn't blowing smoke here. Having him and Price as a 1a/1b would be terrific.

I also hope no GM decides on July 1st that they want to pay him starter money and leave us a chance to sign him (if it gets to that point)

Any chance somebody can give a link to listen to that interview? Is there an archived section somewhere?

Sounds like a great guy, and he genuinely sounds excited about the possibility of playing in Montreal.

I'm pretty excited at the thought if a Price/Ellis tandem.

There's a lot of chance that it would go to something we wouldn't be able to offer. I do envision the Flyers giving him 3M$ + and we can't go there.
Or they could just re-sign Leighton at a fraction of that price...

Go back and read some of the quotes posters have provided. You'll get a good idea of what he said.

"Montreal is a team that we (Ellis and agent Mike Liut) were looking at, but you don't know what you'll get from other teams."

"I talked to (general manager) Pierre Gauthier and (head coach) Jacques Martin yesterday and got their ideas from a hockey standpoint"

"And hopefully things can work out."

"Obviously in Montreal with the culture and the language there's a lot to think about - I haven't taken French lessons since Grade 9,"

"But my wife and family are excited about the possibility of playing there and I've had lots of friends and relatives call to say how exciting that can be. Right now, Montreal is the present situation and hopefully something can be worked out."

"My biggest thing is playing on a team that wins"

"You don't always have to be the guy with that title and it's nice to play a lot of games, but you want to put yourself in a place to win a Stanley Cup."

I remember back in the days when he was with Hamilton. People were crapping on him all the time and saying that he would never make the NHL. How things have changed.

But I don't think a lot of people really believed in him.

If this trade gets us rid of SK and a enthusiastic and capable backup such as Ellis, I'm going to french kiss PG right on the mouth.

This made me more confident we can get him signed. He is the kind of guy teams want in the locker room and he can genuinely make a difference on this team if we get a deal done.

If Price falters, we can fall back to Ellis. Or a better situation...Dan and Price in a 1A/1B kind of tandem, with one or the other getting more starts depending on who is hot and at what time.

Ultimately of course, I'm sure the organization wants Price to win out the job and keep it all year long (not like last year), but having Ellis is only a plus, and nothing less. If Price plays 50 or so games and Ellis gets the rest, I'll be a happy camper. Even if that evens out between 40 and 45, I still wouldn't mind.

Get it done Pierre.

Signing Ellis = Solid goalie platoon, just like Price/Halak. The benefit would be his veteran stability, no Allan Walsh, and (hopefully) less of a goalie controversy.

If Ellis and Halak turns out to be a wash, we basically moved Sergei for Boyd, Eller, and Schultz. Nice work PG.

Reading the interview on here made me believe we really can sign him. It seems he truly wants to play in Montreal. I love the attitude he's bringing as well. Hopefully we can lock him up. He and Price would make a great tandem.

It doesn't mean much really, but he was also a teammate of Plekanec and Andrei Kostitsyn during the lockout season in 04-05 when the Bulldogs split between Habs and Stars prospects. Little piece of random trivia.

Woah woah... PG hates french, haven't you seen the headlines!?

In all seriousness.. Ellis is the PERFECT compliment to Carey Price. When I saw Ellis in Hamilton, he wasn't exactly NHL material. He had a great work ethic though, and used that to land himself a starting job in the NHL. With him pushing Carey and teaching him a good work ethic, very good things will come.

Kypreos reporting that the Flyers have re-signed Leighton, which would seemingly knock them out of the "Dan Ellis sweepstakes" (can't believe I just said those words). Good news for us!

Indeed.

As of 4 hours ago, Gauthier still did not have any discussion with Ellis' agent though according to Garrioch. This is weird. Maybe he's very confident that ellis will accept his first offer.

Garrioch is as bad as Eklund. I'd take that with a grain of salt, I'm sure Pierre has called up Ellis by now, there's less than 24 hours until free agency starts and he just traded for his rights.

If that report is true, then I'm concerned. I'd hate to lose Dan.

That's funny...cause Ellis has already had a chance to talk to Gauthier & Martin.
