burke will bid on hamhuis

could part of burke's plan be to sign hamhuis and trade schenn with kaberle for a top six forward. with schenn/kabs packaged together what kind of return could the leafs get.

Doesn't mean he'll get him. I see no reason why Hamhuis would be interested in the Leafs. Why would he choose TOR over VAN, PHI, PIT, SJ, etc. who all appear interested in him?

What do most people consider Hamhuis? Solid 2-4 guy? I know he played behind two great dmen in NSH.

You can never have too many defensemen.

I really don't think that would land Bobby Ryan....as for the OP, I also doubt Burke plans on moving Schenn anywhere.

It would most likely be the end of Kabs, not Schenn!

Toronto presently needs a top-line center and you think trading the team's best one for ANOTHER winger is a working solution?

Goofy.

I would say a 2-3 man that is about to get handed a very large cheque because of what else is available this year...

no it doesn't but the leafs have the cap space to get him and the only reason i think they would overpay to get him is cause burke has defenseman trades in his back pocket. i must say i was surprised when i heard this but if dreger says it then maybe. not like eklund gave the old E5 here.

i think it could because many ppl on the ana board absolutly love beauchy, kabby will be great anywhere and they could use a second line winger in grabo and thats a lot to give up for 1 player !

The prospects we gave up are nothing special, just like the one we got. Stalberg is a good player, but he is both older, and currently less skilled than Versteeg. They can both get better, and chances are, we got the better player in the end. Can't see how or why we should be upset over this deal.

Back on topic, if we sign Hamhuis, I hope its between 4-4.5. I would be hesitant to give him 4.5, but I'm not Burke. I like how Burke is building the team, but at the same time feel there is WAY too much money being spent on D.

That's what I was thinking as well. He is a solid dman and he is about to cash in big time. Somebody will overpay him good.

If you give Burke a big bag of candy, he will eat them all at once and then have a tummy ache.

Oh, I'm sure he meant, I dunno, Nolan. YEAH, HE MEANT BOBBY RYAN.

And, yeah, I'm sure Bobby Ryan sounds promising, but you're exacerbating a current problem by trading perhaps the best center presently on your team.

agree. toronto/chicago made a good deal for both teams. its just more anti leaf crap. versteeg is younger then stalberg so we got the better and younger player. horrible trade burkie

I don't really understand Burke's plan. What's the big picture?

No offense to the Leafs but I don't think quick fix signings/trades are going to lead to them being anything more than a team that flirts with the playoffs every season.
