I'm worried we're signing some pointless center, like Koivu, Jokinen, Modano or Belanger... You get my point. Lombardi might be an interesting option, but I reckon he wants to get as much as he can, so I hope we ain't signing him.

Honestly, I'd love if we got Kariya, I know it's unreasonable, it's jsut I love him as a player but I have no idea what's he looking for. There actually are some interesting players like Whitney, Poni, Frolov, but I don't think Sather should go hard after them. If there's a reasonable oportunity then great, but please, don't splash big cash on them.

I am really interested what's gonna happen as far as defense goes, there're many options plus it depends on our chances of signing Girardi and Staal long term. We'll see, I'm hoping for some smaller, smart moves... Yeah, I know, wiiishful thinking.

Kariya is pretty broken down at this point

Again, going for center depth, I'd be Lombardi is a big target, but I don't know if they'll get him for a reasonable price.

He wouldn't be too bad a signing at the right amount/years, but he's obviously no first line center

Some 4th line plug for 3 years, 3 million total.

unless Sather has gotten it in which case maybe Frolov or Afinogenov?

Probably a lower-tier D-man. I think Brooks is onto something with O'Donnell.

According to Andy Strickland:

"Rangers D-man Marc Staal is hopeful an offersheet comes his way as negotiations with Glen Sather have taken a turn in wrong direction."

Warm up the weed whacker? If he forces Sather to match, one year, no trade, under the CBA is all he gets.

If he signs an offer sheet and the Rangers match, he's bound by the terms of that offer, which would certainly be more than 1 year long

edit: also have my doubts about this being a huge deal with Staal

Honestly, while I think signing Kovy is the best move the team could make, I'm getting the strong impression that they won't.

If that's the case, then don't sign ANYONE notable outside a backup G and maybe a lower pairing D. No over 35 players, except maybe on veeeeeeeeeeeery cheap one year deals. (That includes Prospal.) No 2nd tier UFAs like Lombardi or Volchenkov/Martin/Hamhuis on $3-4-5MM (or more!) deals.

If we walk away from this with Saku effing Koivu for $7MM over 2 years or something like that, I'm going to blow a gasket. If we're going to get "placeholders" they damn well better be REAL placeholders - you know, the kind that can actually be replaced if someone like Stepan steps up in camp. Not an aging, respected vet with a "name" who's going to get his icetime no matter what and has just enough left in the tank to guarantee that we once again fool ourselves into thinking that we're in the running for a playoff spot right up until the very end, when we once again finish with a crap record - but just good enough to miss out on a top 5 pick.

I want to be mad at Staal, but can't... it's Redden's fault!

Where'd you get that? I don't see it on his twitter page (http://twitter.com/andystrickland). Sure you don't have a faker? Give us a link.

Please get Kovy out of our division, and sign our RFAs. That's literally all I want and expect.

Clearly Staal is simply looking out for us NYR fans.

Every additional dollar he obtains in this contract is a bit closer to forcing Sather to dump Redden.

It's amazing how we've become conditioned to cringe every year on the morning of July 1, hoping against hope that the day passes without Sather doing anything stupid. I suppose the silver lining is that because of Sather's previous July 1 mistakes, he's limited in what he can do this year on July 1.

2 questions

1. What Are We Waiting For To Bury Reddens Contract?

2. If Gab Gets Injured, Which He Has A Million Times In His Career, Is There Any One On This Team That Would Be A Legit Threat To Put The Puck In The Net?

1) We can't bury him now. We could stick him on waivers, but we all know that he wouldn't be claimed, so we may as well let Dolan save the $150 waiver fee.

2) No one. That is the problem.
