1. What Are We Waiting For To Bury Reddens Contract?
2. If Gab Gets Injured, Which He Has A Million Times In His Career, Is There Any One On This Team That Would Be A Legit Threat To Put The Puck In The Net?
Reason Number 3987 to sign Kovalchuk... Unless we like Semi-Tanking, which never works because Lundqvist always goes into "Beast-Mode" and is like "AHHHHH IM NOT LOSING GAMES" and then after Gabo goes down we have like a 15 overall or something.
Dont get your hopes up.. Every one is saying Kings or KHL... Rangers havent been mentioned in one article.
I think major article writers have counted out the Rangers in their head because of the other contracts that we have so they may not mention us for that reason but the Rangers haven't said anything themselves for fear of tampering and a few people have confirmed that the Rangers are atleast looking at him as a possibility.
Kovalchuk to Rangers means Redden to AHL... Addition by subtraction in that regard immediately.
I realize hockey isn't the most popular sport in NY, but you'd think they could at least give it 15 seconds or so. I turned on the news this morning and the sports reporter says today is the the big free agent day...and stupid me is thinking, "Wow...gonna hear some hockey news!". Then they proceed to do 10 minutes on LeBron James, about whom I frankly don't give a damn. It's so frustrating being a big time hockey fan in NY.
Couldn't agree more--all the talk in N.Y is about LeBron LeBron LeBron which we know he is not coming here so maybe Dolan pony's up some of coin he was willing to spend on LeBron and wants to make a splash in FA in hockey and signs Kovy.
8 million for Kovy
6.5 to dump Redden in Hartford(maybe swing a deal with the Russian owner of the Nets to have Redden play in KHL).
Total of 14.5 million which is still cheaper then if they signed LeBron.
Works for most Ranger fans.
Anyway happy July 1st(Fa day--Ranger give away day).
There is nothing on which to base your guarantee that they cannot possibly win a Stanley Cup without a Kovalchuk.
I said Kovalchuk's caliber.
So you can refrain from signing him and hope upon hope that Chris Krieider or Derek Stepan develop into superstars, or we back our way into a top 5 pick that develops in a star...but I'd rather take the sure thing thats there right now.
I think Kovy is generational talent... he's also very healthy and a guaranteed 40+ goal scorer... he doesn't need an elite playmaking center... it'd be nice, sure, but this team won't get one any time soon.
Signing Drury and Gomez to their contracts is lunacy.. same with Redden's awful contract.... but Gaborik at 7.5m? Great! Kovy at anything under 8.5? Great!
Kovalchuk is on pace to score about 700 goals in his career.
You can make an argument not to sign him, fine, but lets not discredit how dynamic of a player we have there for the taking on the free agent market as of noon today.
Yeah and Ken Griffey Jr. was once on pace to hit about 900 homers. If the guy retires with 700 you can call him generational, fantastic, masterbratorial...whatever the hell you want. As of right now he is just a really good offensive player who scores a lot of goals and has never heard of the concept of playing defense.
The fact of the matter is that no matter how many goals he has scored, he has never come close ONCE to winning ANYTHING in the NHL. And that's WITH the likes of Marc Savard and Marian Hossa playing with him. I just don't understand how people think Kovy + Gabby = STANLEY CUP.
