Anyway, habs fans, we know our team sucks. That doesn't negate the fact this is a good deal for the Leafs, and perhaps it's a win-win for both teams involved. The Leafs needed someone like Versteeg, who is a pretty decent two-way player and has a lot of character. Just because the Leafs did it doesn't mean you should dismiss it as a bad trade. I certainly thought the habs did quite well trading Halak - I think you can keep your objectivity in tact even when discussing the team you hate.

Lets say you want to buy a $30 fan and all you have a bunch of change in a jar. Instead of waiting and saving up more change to reach your goal, you rush and trade all that change for some paper money(at a cost). You can trade 4 toonies for a $5 bill all you want. Since you didn't wait til you had enough money to start with, your going to end up spending $24 in coins to get $15 in bills. The bills may look prettier but you're actually further behind.

lolwut?

Versteeg was nominated for the Calder. He has two twenty goal seasons during his two NHL seasons...last year scoring 20 on the third line. If anything, he's underrated.

Let me get this straight. You think a player who has scored 22 and 20 in his first two seasons is only a 20-25 goal guy, but Stalberg can be a 40 goal guy?

What a steal for the Leafs imo. Stalberg was pretty overrated and will be nothing more than a 3rd liner. He's actually older than Versteeg. Sweat is better than both other prospects the Leafs sent. I guess Hawks need the cap space and got it. Leafs got the better players.

dammit, I likes Versteeg. Now I hate. Him and Kessel have a scoring touch. At least they lost Stahlberg.

It's 3 for 2. Leafs also aquired the rights to Bill Sweatt.

Good trade for Toronto. Versteeg as 2nd line center to mentor Seguin as their top line center. Oh wait.... that's right.... nevermind....

And they traded their 10th and 11th ranked prospect and got a guy who will be tied for their 5th ranked prospect.

How did they clear out their prospect cupboard?
They are both 24. Stalberg being older by only 4 months.

A 23 vs a 24 yeard old... could that be your only argument?

It doesnt change the fact that Versteeg is the younger and much better player.

And out of the 3 guys in the trade that should be considered prospects the best one went to the Leafs.
