You obviously don't know how the Flyers operate. Trade picks, obtain overpriced players.

how about because hamhands made it clear he didn't want to play here.

They offered him 4 (supposedly)

Actually, come to think of it... Meszaros will probably have a career year if paired with one of Pronger or Timonen.

Coburn can't anchor a pairing... so, I'd wager we end up with the same top 4 as last year to start, and then role the 3rd pairing better.

3.2 mill per year?

Holmgren has lost it.

Clearly lost it.

So this either means:

A) we trade Carle
B) we don't get a goalie

Hoping A gets done

So we are spending 22 on 5 defensemen meanwhile we have Leighton in net. This is stupid.

Ridiculous.

3.2M for Coburn is silly. If that's the negotiating point let him see if an offer sheet comes in, and/or take him to arbitration.

We're at roughly 3M left if we dump Cote (should), but that will shrink to 1Mish when Powe and Carcillo are signed.

If we ended up paying Coburn 3.2M anyway, why not just let someone offersheet him and keep Carle?

unless hartnell goes somewhere (Seems like the most likely candidate to me) leighton is gonna be the starter i guess. i dont see carle leaving.

time to chew through the 240V line powering the oven.

I'm satisfied with both moves, a little pricey but that's how it goes unfortunately.
Still targeting Ellis but are we planning on paying him with food stamps?

I'm a little confused.

But I'll see how this turns out before confusion turns to anger.

I don't have a problem with that contract. That's almost exactly what I thought he was worth and will get. What doesn't make sense to me is picking up Meszaros. That contract is flat out horrible. Coburn has been the better player the past 2 years easily, and has even more potential than Andrej.

We could have been:
Coburn
Turco
Keep 2nd rounder

or:
Coburn
Meszaros
Lose 2nd rounder
Leighton

Meszaros is a larger red flag, and a luxury that we don't necessarily "need." If it was Coburn for 3.2M and a cheap veteran for the 3rd pairing, fair enough. I think 3.2M is overpayment, but, who knows, maybe the brain farts will cease and Coburn will turn into a solid D.

However, Coburn's offense has regressed in consecutive years... and 3.2M for 19 points from a 21 minute D is ridiculous. That's before we get into his defensive shortcomings and the fact that we really can't put him on the 3rd pairing with Bartulis and expect 'em to be solid defensively.

I don't like this. I just wanted a #5 kind of guy making #5 kind of money, and more money allocated towards a goalie. Even if we were going to get another $4m d-man, Mez isn't the one I'd have wanted. Not to mention, that we had to send a ****ing 2nd round pick rather than just signing a free agent for nothing. And with Coburn signing for $3.2, I struggle to see how this doesn't mean Leighton/Boucher.
