I wish I could call up TSN and ask them to trade McGuire. I can't stand him.

Percolate the f out of here.

Possibly I am. Not as much as most people overrating the likes of Ladd and EVERY Gillis manoevre.

Do you think it's overpayment? I sure as hell do.

Is it really though? What's a fair price for the perfect fit? That extra 500k bought us the security of knowing we'll have a solid 3rd line with a top notch face off and pk guy with size.

The only guys I can think of that might be better than Malhotra at his role would have cost us more, or at least some valuable assets. Malhotra only costs money.

I think this deal with look great this year and next. By the third, with Kes and Sedin locked up and Hodgson emerging, could possibly be a bit of a burden. We can only wait and see. Maybe we'll have a cup by then and this won't seem like such a big deal

Pierre, seriously, can it.

Nothing wrong with him starting his career on the wing or even some spot duty at 4th line centre. Or even him starting in the AHL for that matter.

Ya, Malhotra can play both wing and centre; Gillis loves those guys.

I don't mind the money as much as the term; wtf did we give the guy 3 years for?

I'm not really sure that a NTC means what it did five years ago. It's hardly a handcuff if a deal needs to be made.

I am a big fan of this signing, and honestly, free agents always get overpaid especially if they are going to sign here on day one of free agency, if you don't overpay you aren't going to end up with anyone. You're acquiring an asset for nothing but money, it's going to require a little more than trading assets for other assets, just common sense really.

You guys forget about the Sedins so quickly.

Malholtra can win faceoffs, has speed and can be a good shutdown centre... Hodgson would be perfect on his wing. We made the same mistake with the Sammy signing, so let's wait until the season starts before we make our judgements.

1. 6'2" 220lb center who can skate
2. can play W/C
3. excellent on PK
4. 62.5% on faceoffs
5. 15:30 a night on a top team last season

HOW ARE PEOPLE UNHAPPY WITH THIS? 500K?

While i'm not ecstatic about the price it was clear canucks needed a real 3rd line center. 2.5 million is high but others have compared him to madden and pahlsson who both received similar salaries. Hodgson can play the wing if there's no room for him at center, you can't take hodgson to the SCF as our 3rd line center, it just wouldn't work, and that's our goal this year, we're laying it all down.

You are right on the play off numbers, but it's not all about points.

Canucks have not had a good third line center, that was gritty, can hit, win faceoffs, in a long time.

This is overpayment by .500k, but still a damn good pickup

or dare I say something outlandish like start him (Hodgson) at a winger spot?

Who went bad by staying in the minors too long on the Canucks? How is your comment that this is classic Canucks development system appropriate? Especially regarding the Sedins. They took their time with them - and look - they turned into solid 1st line forwards!

It is about points when we need a 3rd line (and 2nd) that HAS to contribute during the playoffs.

He's only 30, he shouldn't be falling apart at the end of it. I'm not expecting Johnson, the sequel.

Probably a bit overpayed but he is exactly the kind of player the Canucks need.

I like this deal even though the price is higher then I would like. Manny allows us to give Hodgson sheltered minutes + some PP time

Would you rather have extra cap space going into the season and not be a better team or have no room (like Chicago) but actually challenge for the Cup?

And Armstrong would have been a better signing than Ladd.
Not liking the signing is one thing, I'm still on the fence about it; however, elite PKers who put up 30-35 points a season are hardly 4th line faceoff specialists. And the Canucks should be grateful that they "missed out" on Armstrong at $3 million per season.
