The only thing I can think of is that Sutter still has other dealings to take care of. Which would mean that Langkow is on the way out, Jokinen is our 2nd or 3rd line centre at 3 million. And we still bring in a top line centre. Jokinen's contract is more cap friendly at 3 then Langkow's at 4.5 mil. However I would still want Langkow even though he is more money.
I am in agreement with all those that say Langkow is gone. I actually don't mind Joker coming back, especially with a very good pass-first winger on his left. I do wish the money was a little smaller...say 2m per. I believe that there could still be Ranger talks going on...maybe something surrounding Callahan (per Kerr) for Langkow and other smaller pieces?
The only way it makes sense: Langkow and Backlund have to be on their way out with a number one center coming in (Spezza or Carter my guess).
I agree, Jokinen makes 1.5 million less than Lanks and would put up similar numbers as Langkow next season. If Sutter is still bringing in a top line centre then this signing makes sense as it creates more cap space. However this is all speculation and this would only make sense if Langkow is moved out in a package to aquire a #1 centre. If this does not transpire, Sutter has indeed lost his mind.
