http://hurricanes.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=533509

MatsumotoRALEIGH, NC – Jason Karmanos, Vice President and Assistant General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Jonathan Matsumoto (maht-soo-MOH-toh) on a two-year, two-way contract. The deal will pay Matsumoto $500,000 at the NHL level and $105,000 at the minor-league level in the first year, and $525,000/$105,000 in the second year.

Matsumoto, 23, completed his third full season of professional hockey in 2009-10, leading the American Hockey League’s Adirondack Phantoms with 30 goals and 62 points while playing in all 80 of the team’s regular-season games. The Ottawa, Ont., native has amassed 81 goals and 92 assists (173 points) in 251 AHL regular-season games with the Flyers’ affiliates. Prior to turning professional, Matsumoto (6’0”, 190 lbs.) played three seasons at Bowling Green University, scoring 49 goals and earning 64 assists in 110 games. The Flyers drafted Matsumoto in the third round, 79th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

The Carolina Hurricanes open their 2010 exhibition schedule on Sept. 21 at the RBC Center against the Florida Panthers. For information on 2010-11 Hurricanes ticket packages, please visit www.CarolinaHurricanes.com, or call 1-866-NHL-CANES.

beat me to it. I like this a lot, getting him on a two-way. Gives us plenty of flexibility to work with him, although I wouldn't bet against him being our #3 centerman this coming season. He's hitting that point in his career where it's going to be make or break for him to be an NHLer or another Aucoin type tweener.

Exactly my thoughts. Putting him on a one-way would have taken away some of the competition we need at training camp. Glad we got him signed...
