Islanders will be more than happy to take him! Briere too if you don't like his contact!

Isnt Nabakov still out there?

I mean, theoretically, we could trade one of Gange or Carter away from some picks, and use the cap space to sign Nabakov.

Then everyone could stop complaining (and if you arent complaining, i am obviously not talking about you) bout not getting a goalie, even though its only been one day of free agency. Sheesh

The cap relief moving Briere would create would be incredible, even to a division rival.

So Gagne could be the guy who makes way for a signing or a trade given his salary, potential quality of play and the length of his deal unfortunately.

I will HATE to see him go but depending on how it works out it may or may not really hurt the team. It seems difficult to foresee him staying beyond this current contract and while the team should be going all in for this year that may mean sacrificing someone who won't be part of the future plans.

Emotionally I would be torn apart by his departure, rationally I say let's wait and see if he even leaves and what it opens the door for.
Why? He's the only one of the '11 free agents whose cap hit should be going DOWN.

I take it you didnt read my post. I did say theoretically. I love Gagne, but its not really up to me if he is traded or not.

Gagne is more important to this team than any goalie we could move him for including free agent goalies we could acquire with his cap space (unless we are talking about Vokoun, Miller, Lundqvist, Luongo, or Brodeur).

Well I don't think it would hurt the Flyers that much, it's not like the Islanders are a Briere away from being very competitive. The Isles will most likely be looking for defense first though.

Apart from Richards and Giroux, I would want any forward traded before Gagne was. Hopefully this rumour is just that.

I don't think Gagne would return anything that would warrant trading him IMO. I know it's not up to you, but it's all speculation at this point anyway and that's what we're doing.

I have no problem trading Gagne. I have a problem with shooter making a good deal. If the whole premise, and it seems like it is, is to move salary to sign a goalie then this guy needs his head examined. He had the space and liek usual foolishly used it all up. No need to sign the guys he did today. None at all.

I don't know, I could see a scenario where Homer approaches him about a trade and he's offended/hurt to the point where he wants to get out. That may be me being dramatic though. I don't know how interactions like this happen.

Whoever does ask about him should ask Homer for a 2nd rounder. He uses them in trade talks like banks use lollipops.

I wish that were true but there is no way in hell the Isles would take Briere. Call me when you kidnap Wang and usurp his position, we'll talk shop.

i hope so if it comes down to it

id hate to see that situation even play out, bc gags is a GREAT guy, and refusing to waive usually makes people look bad

The difference is, we could get a king's ransom for Carter.

The only players with big money who are less important to this team than roughly any goalie we could acquire are Hartnell and Carle. Briere's name might get thrown into that hat cautiously only because his contract could be a big issue later.

If next offseason you could get the same deal from the Leafs as they sent to Boston for Kessel, would you do it?

I'm not quite sure why you want to trade away one of the 3 or so players on your team that actually has a pair of balls to put in his cup? Gutless team, those Bruins.
