I would add that he now prefers others to lug the puck for him.

Ok, I'll give this a shot. First, if against all odds we land Crosby:

Lemieux - Malkin - Morozov
Malone - Crosby - Recchi
Koltsov - Prjetta/Beech - Fata
Abid - Endicott - Bradley/VandenBussche

If it's not Crosby, it still could be a guy who could start in the top 6. If he's a LW, then move Malone to center. If a RW, move Recchi to center. Both Malone and Recchi have skills that translate well to center.

*Note* for Beech to get the 3rd line center job, he's gotta get his penalties under control! Prjetta is very nice insurance in case he doesn't.

Defense:

Tarnstrom (assuming we sign him!) - Jackman
Whitney - Orpik
Lupaschuk - Melichar

Extras: Scuderi/Rosival

*Note* with the depth we have on D, we might lose someone above on waivers or maybe even let Tarnstrom go (ugh)

Goal:
A good FA vet and Caron sharing time. Once Fleury is ready, we could trade Caron and the FA could be our reliable backup...until one of our multitude of other goalies develops into that role.

Overall, I think we could make the playoffs with a lineup like this, but our D might have to play better than expected. But, it's not a lineup that will last for all that long, with Lemieux and Recchi not having that much time left. We will need more top-6 guys down the road.

Pirjeta is a really good player to have, because he can slot in wherever there is a hole and not look out of place. Not saying he should be penned in for a regualr position on the top two lines, but he could get the job done on the short term if injuries transpired.

id rather have crosby with lemieux. wouldnt that be cool to have the magnificent one and the next-next-one together? heh. malkin and morozov should stay together as they are probly more compatable. so maybe just mix those top two lines a bit

Lemieux - Crosby - Recchi
Malone - Malkin - Morozov

just my opinion tho
******* thats a HOT top 2 lines

He might be a nice complimentary player for Lemieux. Say with Lemieux and Morozov.

Personally, I think that having guys play together because they are the same nationality is a bit overrated.

As for Crosby necessarily being better than Malkin -- well, that may be true, but I don't think it's a given. The reason I have Malkin with Lemieux though is because Lemiuex likes to have a big guy capable of creating some space for him....and neither Crosby or Morozov fits that role. Malkin is certainly no bruiser, but he can be physical at times and has the size those other two lack.

b) Then change him with Malone ?
c) I thought, a veteran goalie, who has been a backup the last season(s), would be nice. If you don't like Hackett, dumb him and take another goalie.

a) okay. i'm not too knowledgeable about lemieux prefering wing so ill just step back from that
b) malone should also be top two as well. he needs to follow up his stellar previous year. their both wingers and should both be top 2.
c) hackett retired dude.
